The bug is somewhere in between PHP and libxml2. I had encountered the same
issue yesterday while programming to Google Checkout XML API.
For those of you running your own environments, the bug was fixed when I
upgraded (Gentoo revision numbers) to:
* php-5.2.8-r2
* libxml2-2.7.2-r2
