Good stuff coming out.

Is it worthwhile to say nothing should be more than 3 clicks away from 
the root?

For example, this is five clicks away: http://drupal.org/node/483 but 
it's about a non-drupal basic, so I would rather those have their own 
section (and thus, be only two or so clicks away).

http://drupal.org/node/5422 is actually a whopping six clicks, so deep 
it doesn't even seem to show up on the side menu.  ;p

This would only be 4 clicks under the new system, since the admin guide 
is it's own root book.

I think a goal of 3 clicks is reasonable, is measurable and user friendly.
