I noticed the other day that someone's working on an artist portfolio
module. I haven't checked it out and it looks incomplete, but fyi:

http://drupal.org/node/25693

By the way, the site I run (poetryspace.org) is essentially an artist
site -- focused on the art of writing poetry, which has smaller needs
than visual artists, but still. I don't have anything to add to the
list at this point, but I'm very interested in hearing what you come
up with, so please keep me in this loop if you can.
