1. Right click any of the images you see on the Project/Themes page.
2. Click 'View image' in the context menu
3. See the URL from where those images are fetched.

An example:
http://cvs.drupal.org/viewcvs/*checkout*/drupal/contributions/themes/adc/screenshot-drupal.org.png

Now you see where you should put that image. Yes, it will be included in
the theme download, but this is a feature, not a problem. :) Users will
be able to see the theme preview in the download without going online.
