[support] Organic Groups

Sara,

You are welcome.

You cannot proceed when you are getting server errors. Turn off the Content access and ACL modules. If the server errors go away, then you go to the content access project page, click on, "issue queue" and report your experience. That module is in beta and so this is to be expected. The module maintainer will be glad to get the report and try to fix it. But patience is required.

Meanwhile, get to know your site without that requirement being met. OG is a LOT to get your brain around and comes with its own access module. As you get to know OG and your site better, you might even find or discover a better way or a better requirement.

And a week later maybe you'll even find that the Content Access bug will have been fixed, whether you still need it or not.

One clarification: When I said earlier that "500" errors are often "permissions" related, I meant file permissions on your code files and directories on the server, not Drupal permissions.

If I turn off content access and ACL, is there any other way to perform such fine grained access control through Organic Groups? I’m mainly interested in per group access control as a role in one group may have different access requirements in comparison to the same role in another group. I know that in the Groups tab for every group that comes with the Organic Groups module, there is a link called Roles and another link called Permissions that display access requirements for different roles for that group; however, in my installation they are always read-only (please find attached an image that depicts this), so I can’t configure/change them for the group. If there was a way through which I could unlock these configurations, then I wouldn’t need content access and ACL.

However, the access control tab for a group, which appears as a result of enabling the “Enable per content node access control settings” checkbox in the group content type Access control configurations, isn’t accessible due to the following error:

Therefore, I guess I can’t test the fine grained access configuration until group level access control config is working.

First I should say... if you need your site up ASAP and you don't have developer support, you might consider D6. In a month or two, things will be a lot better with D7, so if you can be patient obviously there are big advantages to D7.

"Administering group members" is something that comes built in with Organic Groups and you don't use the Core-based permissions system. With the OG admin interface, any current group admin can assign another member of that group to also be an admin.

However, I can’t seem to be able to configure permissions and roles to facilitate our access control specifications. I appreciate your help in providing me with a guideline to enable me to satisfy the following access control specifications:
