[support] File downloads

Hey, I am looking into a file download tool,
I would love it to have the ability to read a complete directory tree
and be able to restrict download access to members or a specific Role.
An upload facility in the front-end would also be wonderful. As would be
the possibility to add rating to files (these are going to be mostly
.pdf files but might also be .ppt etc in a university setting.

What is a good module to use for that purpose with drupal 7
any suggestions?
