Thanks, Walt. At the moment there are no plans to use this for upgrading, only updating within the major version. We had thought about Features, and that sounds like pretty much the only way to go.

We had a special calendar view constructed as a feature on D6 and found the easiest way to move it to D7 was to recreate the view on D7 (which could then be converted to a D7 feature if we wanted to move it between D7 sites)
