Object based admin is very unusable, and gets very inconvenient I.C.W. role-bassed admin, and a modular system. consistent.druypaldevs.org (refer to earlier posted msgs) is a test a for a full task and menu-based approach. So far I managed to make Drupal there much more consistent, but above all much better useable, since all settings are always only three clicks away.
