Is there a reason for the fact that Drupal does not have an installer right now? If there are no principle objections, I'd like to get started on writing one. Neil and Adrian are working on install.

The reason this is a slow process is that apart from dependecies, there are fundamental security related problems with an installer bundled with drupal. They are not easy to solve at all, especially when you consider the different possible drupal deployment strategies. Vlado
