I've just committed a beta version of the ChipIn (see http://www.chipin.com) module to my sandbox (robroy). I'm writing the list for a couple reasons: 1. I was looking for some peer review of the module. I'll gladly return the favor, it's just nice to have another set of eyes look things over for usability, security, etc. So if you have a module/patch you'd like me to go over in return, let me know. 2. The folks over ChipIn dig(g) Drupal and after reading the fundraising bulletin at http://drupal.org/node/77562 wanted to help out. They have offered to waive all transaction fees for Drupal donations and wanted to throw a cool ChipIn Flash widget on that page (hence the module), in a block, whatever. Once this module is polished, is that something that people would be interested in? I think it's pretty cool to have the donation thermometer to see how much we still need for each fundraising drive and ChipIn.com is pretty well done. (I also included script.aculo.us in the chipin sandbox module for review purposes. Once this becomes a real module, I'm assuming those will have to go for licensing reasons. But, I'd like to include just the bare minimum of JS in there to get the color palette slide effect, and not have to force users to download an external JS helper module. What is the recommended route there?) Thanks, -- Rob Roy Barreca Founder and COO Electronic Insight Corporation http://www.electronicinsight.com rob@electronicinsight.com

On the list, or privately? I'm, apparently, harsh. -- Morbus Iff ( cheese and rice saves ) Technical: http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/au/779 Culture: http://www.disobey.com/ and http://www.gamegrene.com/ icq: 2927491 / aim: akaMorbus / yahoo: morbus_iff / jabber.org: morbus

Okay, I've updated and moved the ChipIn module to contrib (/modules/chipin), but haven't create a project page yet. I'd love it if someone could spend a few minutes and give me a quick review for anything major before I create the project page and branch for 4.7. Again, I'll gladly review any patch(es)/module(s) in return. Thanks! You could also take Morbus up on this offer - while harsh, if your code passes his review you can be pretty certain that it's "good" or even "pedantically good". I did in a previous email, did that not make it to the list? Thanks for the g.d.o pointer Greg, I'll check that out next! Rob Roy Barreca Founder and COO Electronic Insight Corporation http://www.electronicinsight.com rob@electronicinsight.com Greg Knaddison - GVS wrote:

First -- thanks for putting this together, Rob. On 8/23/06, Rob Barreca <rob@electronicinsight.com> wrote:

I think there are many people in the wider community that would be interested in Chip-In like functionality. I think it's pretty cool to have the donation thermometer to see how
much we still need for each fundraising drive and ChipIn.com is pretty well done.
I'm wary of payment systems in general, and in particular of new, untested ones. I took a spin around ChipIn, and it is quite nicely done. I created an account. How is their support for international credit cards? Our community is a world wide one... (I also included script.aculo.us in the chipin sandbox module for review

Use JQuery effects. It will likely be in core for 4.8/5.0, and it's much smaller than script... -- Boris Mann Vancouver 778-896-2747 San Francisco 415-367-3595 Skype borismann http://www.bryght.com

First -- thanks for putting this together, Rob. Sure thing. ChipIn has sponsored the development so they deserve some thanks as well. :P I'm wary of payment systems in general, and in particular of new, untested ones. I took a spin around ChipIn, and it is quite nicely done. I created an account. I agree that will be the initial hold-up and I felt a bit of the same at first. But after using the ChipIn site for a bit, I've gained confidence and think it would be a worthwhile contribution. How is their support for international credit cards? Our community is a world wide one... They accept international credit cards via PayPal. See http://chipin.helpserve.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarti... for some info.

Use JQuery effects. It will likely be in core for 4.8/5.0, and it's much smaller than script... With the release set for tomorrow, I guess it is perfect timing!
