User File Space?

I'm helping a friend evaluate moving his website off of Windows/ASP to Linux/PHP. One of this functional requirements is as follows: THere is admin functionality that allows me to set up accounts (with passwords) that users can access to upload and download files (users have no access to each others files). files should be well protected (cant download just by knowing the location/name. need some mechanism to deal with duplicate file names (current site gives uploaded files a unique name if duplicate is found ... user only sees the name he typed in though). save configurationfor modules does not work

I have a NEW (not an upgrade) drupal install: Drupal 4.6.5, 2005-12-12) mysql 4.0.24 php 4.3.11 it seems to be mostly working didn't try everything yet) except of Few administration tasks in Administer section. 'Modules' and 'Theme' pages show me the list of modules/themes, some are required, the rest are disabled. If I check any module/theme's 'Enabled' checkbox and hit the 'Save configuration' button I get the following error (example for one module, if I check more than one the same stuff is repeated): warning: sprintf(): Too few arguments in ./includes/database.inc on line 164. user error: Query was empty query: in ./includes/database.mysql.inc on line 66. warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at ./includes/common.inc:384) in ./includes/common.inc on line 192. other db errors when trying to enable blocks: warning: mysql_real_escape_string() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in ./includes/database.mysql.inc on line 239. any ideas what's going on? It looks like there's something wrong with the database (I just installed it, it was not an upgrade). TIA erik

Skipping Rewrite for Subdirectory

Hi, I want to modify the drupal .htaccess to skip the default rewrite rule for a particular subdirectory and was wondering how I go about that. Hmm... I'm not having that trouble with node_privacy_byrole on the 4.6.x. code, but here are some things I might check. 1. Make sure in the table that there are no rows with realm=all, or any other realm. 2. Verify there are no other access control modules enabled. (e.g. taxonomy_access, organic groups, simple access). The reason a module is required is that drupal fires the nodeapi hooks in modules to check and see if the user has permissions to node content. Different modules implement different security in different ways and the way they are integrated is by implementing the hook. Drupal does not implement any "node specific security" by default. So if you don't have any of these modules enabled all you get is the basic security model. That's at least how I understand it. As always, I volunteer to be wrong about this. The short answer here is that it depends on which access control modules you're using. If you're using the "og module" it's different then if you're using "node privacy by role". If I understand it correctly, without additional modules installed this table doesn't do anything. You should be extremely careful about modifying this table without using the API's for the appropriate access module. More info is in the hook_access on the Drupal Api documentation. Need To Know How To Move Drupal To Another Hosting Company

I am moving several sites to another hosting company. I wanted to ask if someone could explain how I should go about moving my existing Drupal site files so I will not lose archives etc.The simplest way possible is what I need to do since I only know how to use Drupal but am not familiar with some of the technical things about servers. translation (i18n) question: categories

Hi, If I create a sub category in 2 languages , the translation module lets me map the two sub categories (under 'new translation'). What exactly does this achieve? If someone posts under english, does it automatically get tagged under the spanish sub category too? Also, I want to add 'block title' to the list of translatable variables..what exactly is the variable? is there an easy way to find out? Thanks, V
