how to add blocks to place in regions on my home page

I have a feeling there will be a very simple answer to this question, but I've searched and searched in the documentation and I just can't seem to hit on the right information to guide me. I'm setting up a new site in Drupal (5.2). I managed to get it installed and configured with very little problem, and I've created a new theme and added some content. What I need to do now is set up the home page for the site, which, instead of having one big area for content, will have that area divided into four sections, like this ----------------- | | | | ----------------- | | | | | | | --------- | | | | | | ----------------- each of which needs to be editable by the site owner. I've created regions by defining them in my template.php file, and added the regions to my theme so the are now appearing correctly on the home page. I believe what I need to do next is create some new blocks to place in those regions, and then the site owner can simply edit those blocks as needed. So my questions are: 1) Do I have the right idea with creating regions and placing editable blocks inside those regions? 2) How do I create a new block and ensure that it is editable by the site owner? I've seen mention a few times that I should to to "administer > blocks > add block" but I don't see this option in my site admin; the closest thing to it is "administer > site building > blocks", but this page does not include an "add block" function. I have a feeling that either I'm missing some crucial piece of information, or the documentation I've been reading is not for the version I'm using, or something in my site config is preventing me from seeing all the options/functions I should see in my site admin - or some combination of the above :) Hopefully some kind soul will be able to point me in the right direction! Support - News Aggregator Does not update news

Hi, I am using the news aggregator to publish news on my site from various feeds. The news items never update themselves. I have set some news feeds to update once in 24 hours and some once in 4 hours. I always have to manually update them by clicking Update Items. What could be causing this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Sudheer. S

Reset number of reads

I would like to reset the number of reads to certain of my blogs back to a certain number. Which table/column should I be looking at? Any code snippet to do that ? Allow drupal to pass subdirs...

Hey All, Is there a way I can get past drupal to say access an image that i have stored in a domain.tld/images/ folder? When I transferred my blog from WP to Drupal, I moved the wp-content folder that holds a bunch of uploaded graphics, etc., to my drupal folder, but drupal tells me that it's a bad url when I try to access an image stored in domain.tld/wp-content/upload/... Any clue? -Adam

sftp won't upload entire file? what?

i have tried two different sftp clients, cyberduck and fugu, but the file i am trying to upload keeps stopping after 15 k. i've tried trashing preferences, restarting, etc. for some reason that file does not want to make it to the server, and it is kebonkering my drupal install bc it is pathauto. ideas? thanks on os x

Thanks Dave, Doing the single-sign on at the apache layer has the advantage for us of handling a wide assortment of applications - this approach works w/ mediawiki, gallery, drupal and many others that already have a basic auth module written. The drupal specific CAS module might be interesting though if it handles roles mapping - that might make it worth it for us to port it to our local CAS variation (WIND). Does your module do any roles mapping? (CAS 2 supports affiliations, I believe. Adding affiliations was pretty much why Columbia forked long ago). How does your module allow users to see some pages and not others? Also, can you simultaneously support CAS authenticated users as well as local drupal users w/in the same site? Eliminating bot-noise

Hi, I've got a watchdog problem. The watchdog log is essential for me to discover bugs and errors, and monitor the site's performance, and blahblablah - you know that. But watchdog became quite useless for me, because it is full of 404 errors triggered by Google and other bots. Now nearly 90% of the log is crap. It is impossible to dig out any useful info from that. (Not speaking about the additional server load and database size issues.) Is there any solution to filter out the tons of messages caused by searchbots? Do you face with similar issues? How do you handle those? Best, Tibor ps.: Afais, it is might be caused by two reasons: 1. I use GoogleAds 2. the site had been dramatically changed, and bot searches for the 'old' content fixme.

Hi, I just wanted to bring to your attention our approach to handing a CAS-based single-sign-on solution with drupal. In a nutshell, we wrote an apache auth module (using mod_python's auth support, not c, though a mod_perl port would probably be a snap) that does the CAS dance, and then adapts CAS to Basic Auth (namely, it populates the REMOTE_USER variable), allowing for the ordinary drupal remote user auth product to work for auth. tracker recent posts is always empty

hi list, somehow the tracker page (recent posts) show nothing all the time, all-though there are new articles. i found this: http://drupal.org/node/66526 but there is no solution. is this a known bug or is there a way to solve this in the configuration? m.

search and menus not available to certain roles

I posted the following problem at the drupal website: http://drupal.org/node/171612 I'm using the Garland theme with the search box turned on. For some reason only certain roles can see the search box and menus. Other roles cannot. I can't for the life of me remember what I did to give those roles access but deny other roles.
