Users without email addresses?

Hello, I have an unusual problem: We provide a service for schools. Students make Drupal accounts and use it to do a school project. Problem is, many students don't have email and indeed, the school doesn't *want* the students to have email. Worse, they want the teacher to create the student accounts. I don't like this, yes it's stupid, but there is no chance of me changing their mind about this. I'm hoping that someone here might help me find a good solution for this problem. As part of the service, we have a custom web application that I wrote. This application already has a record of all the students and teachers and schools. So, for example, I could consider using this application to insert new users into the Drupal database. The teacher clicks a button that says "make Drupal accounts for all my students" and a PHP script makes the accounts. Could that work? Personally, I am afraid of editing the Drupal database directly, but perhaps there is a safe API I can use? Or is it reasonably safe to insert records into the Drupal database by hand? I can see problems with this idea (e.g. what do I use as user names? Student names are not unique). But I can't think of anything better. Does anyone have a better idea? I don't really know any good way to solve this problem. The problem is not urgent. For the time being we can get a staff member with admin access to create student accounts using fake email addresses. But I hope to find a better long-term solution. Thanks for the help. Daniel.

Multiple sites using subfolders

Hi everyone, I'd like to set up multiple sites using subfolders. Basically the client wants their site in multiple languages, but doesn't want to attempt to synchronise the various sites and pages between the languages or do anything that the content translation/i18n modules offer. So I want a bunch of independent sites in a multi-site setup. This could easily be achieved using domains like www.example.com, de.example.com, fr.example.com etc. The question is, can I do the same thing putting the sites at: www.example.com, www.example.com/de, www.example.com/fr. This guy explains the same problem quite well http://drupal.org/node/30857, but then the rest of the thread seems to lose track of the task and not give a decent answer. (it might be easier to understand the question if you forget about i18n altogether and just consider the question of putting multiple sites in subfolders). Thanks, John

Simplenews - Ugly Background in the emails sent

I keep getting an ugly brown background colour in the emails that i send through simplenews and mail I'm using Mime Mail 6.x-1.x-dev and Simplenews 6.x-1.0-rc4 I created mail.css and entered the following (ONLY) in that file and saved it in themes/mytheme/ folder. But the dark background is still showing up. Please note the email.css does not contain any other code - only the following text (this is because i want only the background colour to go away - the rest is fine) #content, #mimemail-body { background-color: #FFFFFF; } Is there something I am doing wrong? Drupal + IIS + windows

Hi people, I want to set up drupal in a windows + IIS environment and I want the user not to have to log in I want drupal to automatically knwo who they are. I am reading all kinds of stuff but some how I am not installing them correct because they do not work Drupal + IIS + Windows and the user did not have to login because its information was automagically pass to drupal. Did any of you people get this to work? Thanks, Nestor :-)

Theme inheritance broken

I'm working with a copy of Garland on Drupal 6.9. Essentially I copied Garland into ./sites/all/themes/custom/kidsgardens to create my custom theme. I created a working site. I would now like to remove the template.php and style.css files (at least those parts that belong to Garland) from this directory and eventually have only my customizations there. I named Garland as the base theme in kidsgardens.info and renamed template.php and style.css (to hide them) expecting them to be inherited from Garland. No joy. The php stops at the call for phptemplate_get_ie_styles(), the first function call in page.tpl.php. When I return template.php to my theme directory, the code works but my css is still gone - until style.css is returned to the directory. Being new to drupal I suspect I'm missing something fundamental.

Ubercart: Define attribute option for specific product when creating a product kit

Hey all! Any Ubercart ninjas in da house? When editing a product kit there is a list of all included products which include quantity, ordering and discount. This should also include the product attribute options. example: we sell online content for schools. An ebook can be purchases individually, per classroom or per school. These are all attribute options of the ebook product. We want to create product kits which would include an ebook with a classroom license, but as product kits work now you can't set the attribute option on the edit page - instead the customer picks which attribute option they want which, in this case, won't work. Our workaround is to create copies of existing products with only one attribute option, but this is obviously entirely inefficient and messy... does anyone know of a method to achieve this? Thanks!

Question regarding building a start page

Hi Drupalers :), I'm new to drupal and doing my first steps with the system and pages now. I use drupal 6.9 and the standard Garlant theme. I also should mension that I'm a blind computer user, but as far as I can say drupal seems to be very accessible and good to use with the special screenreader software I need to work. To build a website I created new nodes of the type article and page. Both nodes appear on the startpage of my drupal site now and I can fully access them by clicking the "Read more" link. But what I like to do is to build a start page with a static section, maybe a little wellcome text, and a dynamic section like it is presented on my start page now (some kind of news with the "Read more" links). How can this be done with drupal. I played arround with the system but I was not able to setup this kind of page :(. Does adding taxonomy vocabularies and terms modify Image Galleries?

I recently started adding Taxonomy terms and vocabularies to a site that I had a bunch of image galleries on. The galleries mysteriously seemed to vanish around this time. Does adding taxonomy terms modify other modules? It seems strange it would.. but I thought I'd check? Thanks... Chas

access denied when a user register to my web site

Hi, I'm going crazy! This is really a serious problem. When a user attempts to register to my website, it receives the validation email, but when he attempts to click to the confirmation link, it receives a access denied page. what can be happened? ah, I recently moved my website to another hosting, but I don't know the cause of this... help please. thanks.
