The Dreaded Font Question

Which font would you recommend for a content heavy, text heavy site? I know that's like asking "which car is best?" without listing any of the thousand criteria required to give a proper answer. I used Verdana on my dev site until someone said it looked "deadly dull". I noticed even the BBC has now dumped Verdana and gone with Arial. I know the question of web-safe fonts is very important and that for a screen environment like a website, it's probably best to go with a sans-serif font...but which one?? A good deal of my content will be of the type, blog posts, forum posts, image/vid descriptions....50-500 words, no lines too long, good line-heights used to make everything readable. I thought I was on solid ground with verdana but in retrospect, I think my friend was right. It's a bit of a dull one, our buddy Verdana! So...which one do you use? What does your overriding font-family declaration look like in your theme's CSS? For now, I've gone with: font-family:Tahoma, "Trebuchet MS", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; but I've changed it so many times, I'm not sure of anything anymore :o) Neil

Views-Slideshow problems

Using a modified sea_breeze theme in drupal 6.19 Using views slideshow I have a number of quotations, each fades every 12 seconds to the next. The background is a semi transparent png. Works very well once I am logged in but does not display the quotes before log in. What causes this please? The view block is in the Content block displaced to show in bottom right corner of the header so it is not dependent on the header for placement. If I place the views slideshow block in the header block, it does not display but does in the content and footer blocks. I used a green 2px border around the block and this can be seen when the header changes. I have tried z-index from 0 to 80, to try placing it on top of the header- no good. With the header image off, the border displays but there's no text in the block. I would appreciate some help understanding this please. Thanks roger

Problem with drop down list in a theme

I have a huge problem. I need to be able to create relationship between Contact name, Position and Region for display in 4 views, one for each region. Each Position can have up to 4 names associated with it. Some other names can hold 2 or 3 Positions. Each name is associated with one region. I need to be able to display Contact first and last name, Position and Region in a page view but be able to select the Region and the Position/s within that Region to display in a view page. The aim is for the viewer to be able to choose which region they are in, choose the Position they need help from and see the contact details. It seems that Drupal 6.19 can only create Select Lists from the Title field of any content type, this is a huge problem for me as it means I have to enter the first and last name 2 times, once in the title field and once in a content field. Is there a way around this? Also I cannot create a view to use as a select list because the title only displays as a node type not a field. The Contacts drop down seems limited to 18 names and no way of displaying any more. I have content type Contacts which contains 100 names: title [first name] Last Name field Address fields Phone fields etc. I have Content type of Positions where title contains 40 member positions like: Web Services Administrator ISP Provider Calendar Coordinator Reviewer and so on. I have a Region content type containing 4 Australian Regions. NA [Nothern Australia]One CA [Central Australia] SA [Southern Australia] WA [Western Australia] I have an Admin Services content type with fields: contacts [Displays the node:title] Positions [Displays a button list of available positions] Regions [ Region sis displayed as a drop down. I hope I've given sufficient information to obtain some help, thanks in advance. Regards Roger

Invalid argument errors referencing block.admin.inc

Anytime I go into Site Building, I get: * warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /www/****/****/drupal/modules/block/block.admin.inc on line 33. * warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /www/****/****/drupal/modules/block/block.admin.inc on line 52. * warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, 'block_admin_display' was given in /www/****/****/drupal/includes/menu.inc on line 348. And if I try to load the Block page, it's simply a mostly blank white page, with: Block Region Weight Operations At the top, in bold, and nothing else. I've looked into block.admin.inc, and I don't see anything odd/weird, but I'm certainly no expert. This is preventing me from moving our amateur radio club's new site to "live" status. Any ideas?

recurring problem

I have a problem I can't solve: When I go to my client's website at bartosandrini.com the *Home* tab is not highlighted, in fact a completely different tab, *Criminal/Traffic*, is highlighted. This problem showed up after one of my client's blog editors selected Promoted to front page in the *Publishing options* section. [image: original.png] These are my settings across the site In *Site Configuration* *>* *Site Information*(or /admin/settings/site-information) Default front page: *http://bartosandrini.com/ The home page displays content from this relative URL. If unsure, specify "node". In the footer section on the same page and I am using <a href="/"><u>Home</u></a> In *Site Building* *>* *Menus* *>* *Primary Links* (or /admin/build/menu/item/1964/edit) Menu settings Path: * The path this menu item links to. This can be an internal Drupal path such as *node/add* or an external URL such as *http://drupal.org*. Enter *<front> * to link to the front page. Menu link title: * The link text corresponding to this item that should appear in the menu. In *Site Building* *>* *Blocks* after selecting configure for the rotor in the content top block (or /admin/build/block/configure/views/rotor-block_1) Page specific visibility settings<http://bartosandrini.com/admin/build/block/configure/views/rotor-block_1#> Show block on specific pages: Show on every page except the listed pages. nodereference_url permissions

Hi all, Node Reference 6.x-2.8 Node Reference URL Widget 6.x-1.6 Drupal 6.19 I have a content type with a cck field nodereference_url. For non-admin roles, if I configure the field to be a selected list, it's works fine, users can select node's title. But if I configure the field to be an autocomplete widget (Use autocomplete widget), non-admin roles can't select node's title. This role have access to edit_field_xxx. It's works when it's a selected list but not when it's autocomplete widget. Autocomplete widget works fine for admin users. Anyone know what's happend ? Thanks a lot

Possible to get the "Read More" on a CCK field?

I couldn't get the "Read More" link to show in teasers for one of my content types, then realised it was because the main text field in that content type was actually a CCK field, not the default "body" text field. There are a couple of comments on d.o but nothing definite about how to get the Read More link showing. Is there something really obvious I'm missing? this is what I have on my other node types and the link shows up fine: <?php if ($node->links['node_read_more']): ?> <div> <a href="/<?php print $node->links['node_read_more']['href'] ?>"><?php print $node->links['node_read_more']['title'] ?> </a> </div> <?php endif; ?> thanks in advance Neil

Trouble with a theme

Folks: I hope I can get some help here. The RocketTheme folks aren't responsive. I use the SolarSentinel theme. I want new users to be able to register. I have set, in the "User Settings" admin interface, the "Visitors can create accounts and no administrator approval is required" option. However, I don't see the link to the /user/register node that lets a user create a new account. When I switch to the Garland theme, I do see this link, so it appears to be a problem with the theme. This kind of problem makes drupal very frustrating for a newbie. As in several other issues like making the front page content show and making comments show, which require php file edits, this is probably some interior php file that must be edited. Hello I am trying to install drupal but I haven't made any progress. I read through the manuals, I googled for the problem but I haven't found any solution Windows 7 64 bit Apache 2.2.17 PHP 5.3.3 PostgerSQL 8.4 I have even tryed with MySQL 5.X with same behaviour similar error message. While trying to install drupal for first time I noticed that nothing happens. Rating module for user profile
