I'd try renaming to bartik_cjm. I have four themes installed and two enabled. Bartik(enabled), Seven(enabled), Garland, Stark. I tried a minimal, trivial sub-theme of Bartik by creating a subdirectory /sites/all/themes/bartik-cjm populated as follows: bartik-cjm/ bartik-cjm.info css/ local.css *bartik-cjm.info:* name = Bartik-cjm base theme = Bartik core = 7.x stylesheets[all][] = css/local.css According to everything I've read, and it has been a increasing amount, this should be sufficient to create a sub-theme named "Bartik-cjm" which inherits everything from Bartik and overrides local.css with my copy. I believe I should see this as one of the options in admin/appearance, and I don't. I can see that $data[system_list][theme] is populated from the MySQL database (select * from cache_bootstrap where cid = "system_list";), which only has my original four themes in the serialized object. So, either the database must be updated somewhere, somehow, by someone, -- OR -- Drupal must look at the filesystem and realize that there is more to the story than the database knows and extend the list. So, how does Drupal become aware of the custom sub-theme? -- Chris.

Drupal contributed modules are usually installed in /sites/all/modules Themes go into /sites/all/themes ckeditor_4.2.1_full.zip gets unzipped into /sites/all/libraries as I described in an earlier note so you have /sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ Yeah that no info file is an old problem. The installation pages should be removed and done properly as should the dozen or so instalation pages in Google. The old crappy info is very confusing. Roger

Welcome to the same trap I fell into. There is a Drupal ckeditor module that must be installed first, this is not ckeditor it'self. First, please install Drupal 7.23, it's a bit cleaner and more secure. Download and install the drupal ckeditor module. Go to the ckeditor home page and find the ckeditor_n.n.n.tar.gz file and download to your /Downloads folder. In the /var/www/html/drupal folder or where ever you have it, Go to /sites/all/ and create a /libraries folder. Copy the Downloaded CKeditor zip or tar.gz file to the /libraries folder. Extract ckeditor so that you have a /ckeditor folder in the /libraries folder. This is the ckeditor that the Drupal ckeditor module looks for. You will find that you need a few more modules and I strongly reccommend the module_filter module as it does a great job of listing and searching modules. HTH Roger

I'm lead to believe that it is not necessary to reproduce all of the contents of the base theme in the directory of the sub-theme; the point is to inherit all of this so you also inherit updates. You are partially correct. Understand just what you are inheriting, is the best advice I can offer to you. Unfortunately there is no easy way to theme Drupal. It is a big, complex, messy, time consuming undertaking. As a hint, have a look at say Garland, Mayo, Danland theme code and get a feel for the depth of understanding needed. Mayo is a great study case in complexity. There are hundreds of theme styles and if you look closely they are virtually variations of the same theme, they just do things differently but still call core functionality. Every theme inherits most of it's functionality from core, that's the basis of Drupal. But you will want to tweak, this is a given. And that is where you need to copy out the bits you wish to manipulate. Golly we are only talking about half a dozen or so files, not the whole system. There is no need to reproduce all of the contents but you do have to have your own templates in your sub directory. It's a safety precaution. Mind you this is only a short cut, an easy way in to a quite substantial development cycle, otherwise you will have to re do it all bit by bit manually and wind up with much the same. Bartik as with the other core themes has calls to the includes folder and you will also have to copy some of those out as you need them to your sub directory so that you can over ride them as needed. Don't go there until you are comfortable with how the theming works. HTH Roger

Hi, New user here. I've installed drupal7 (7.14-2) as a debian package on wheezy. Then, read lots of docs and tried to follow the tutorial here: https://drupal.org/node/1924660 It says to install new modules, so I successfully installed admin_menu-7.x-3.0-rc4.tar.gz imce-7.x-1.7.tar.gz into modules/contrib (I had to create contrib). With the same procedure I installed ckeditor_4.2.1_full.zip but whereas the other two became visible to drupal and can be enabled, ckeditor never shows up. The above tutorial says "not to use the drupal version", so I downloaded the one from ckeditor.com (the home page of ckeditor). If I point the browser to http://localhost/drupal7/modules/contrib/ckeditor/samples/ the page comes up just fine. Of course I've googled the problem, but all the pages are rather old (2009 or so and some refer to fckeditor). None of the suggestions found there have made any difference. I also tried the Modules->Install new module within drupal and entered the zip file, but it failed, claiming that the package didn't have any *.info files. Then, against the advice in the tutorial, I downloaded the drupal version, which is (according to the size and version number) a very minimal sub-set and/or obsolete compared to the 4.2.1_full version. 1300736 Oct 9 16:15 ckeditor_4.2.1_full.zip 242724 Oct 9 18:48 ckeditor-7.x-1.13.tar.gz The latter does have an *.info file and installed properly (it is visible). So, either the above tutorial needs to say that using the old/minimalist ckeditor from drupal is what should be done, or additional instructions need to be given to make the version from ckeditor.com work. After all that, I thought the drupal/old version would work, but I get this: The CKEditor component is not installed correctly. Please go to the CKEditor homepage in order to download the latest version. After that you must extract the files to the sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor or sites/all/libraries/ckeditor directory and make sure that the sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor/ckeditor.js or sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/ckeditor.js file exists. Refer to the README.txt file for more information. Of course, the version this message tells me to go download is the one I had downloaded in the first place and wasn't visible to drupal. HELP! what am I missing? Any idea what needs to be done? Augustine

Copy the page.tpl.php and node.tpl.php to your /bartic-copy/sites/all/themes/ Copy the /themes/bartik/template.php to your /bartic-copy/sites/all/themes/ Then open template.php in your subtheme folder and change every instance of bartik_preprocess to your subthemename_preprocess. page.tpl.php is where drupal calls the theme bits and piecs from to fashion your page. You can manipulate this as you want but I suggest you don't. You can copy the /bartik/css folder over to your subtheme /sites/all/themes/yoursubtheme/ so you can override core theming using the correct terminology. Now the trap you will run into is: When you update Drupal core, it updates the core bartik theme which calls on a lot of core includes and this can break your bartiksubtheme. Been there, done that. HI Folks, I created "/sites/all/themes/bartik-cjm/bartik-cjm.info" with exactly three lines: name = Bartik-cjm base theme = Bartik core = 7.x This is the simplest case of sub-theming -- Change the name only. I expected to see a "Bartik-cjm" theme available on my "Appearance" page, and I found none. Bummer. So, I copied bartik-cjm.info to themes/bartik-cjm/bartik-cjm.info, expecting that should give me a renamed Bartik theme. No dice. I have diligently cleared caches and restarted servers to avoid any "Type 2" errors, but still I see no indication that I have created a valid sub-theme. What have I done wrong? How to remove completely FCKEditor?

I installed FCKEditor on my Drupal 7 'bout 2 years ago and it was working fine. Then one day I realized it stopped working. Don't know exactly when it stopped and if it did after some updates or new modules. I've overwrite the module from backup but didn't help. Removed completely the module and installed again - nothing. Removed again the module and installed CKEditor - nothing again. Simply there is no (F)CKEditor. I wonder how to remove 100% (F)CKEditor? I realized that even you remove the module, tables in mysql stay... Thanks for any help, Afan

JS in Drupal 7

I added a JS file to my theme in a D7 site and then put code like this: (function ($) { console.log(1); jQuery('#edit-views-send-from-name').val(''); console.log(2); }(jQuery)); and in Firebug I see the 1 and 2 but the middle line doesn't run. But if I copy and paste that code into the box on the right of Firebug's Console and "Run" it, then it does work, so the code is correct. There are a bunch of other lines between 1 and 2 that I left out for this post, but they all work when I run it manually and the values being set (and items being hidden) are not set (or shown) by other JS on the page--the value is in the HTML, so it's not as though my JS is competing with some other JS to set these values. Any ideas why my code isn't working? Thanks.
