Newbie on Drupal 6.13 here. Which Views module should I use?

I'm a newbie on Drupal. I've installed 6.13 and have configured a few modules, both core and contributed, getting my feet wet. I'm wanting to put together a social networking type of site, and Organic Groups seems like a definite module I will need. However, OG and many other modules seem to rely on Views, plus I'm sure that I will want to utilize Views for many of the things I want to do elsewhere on the site, so I figured I would get up to speed on Views before I try to tackle OG. My question is, which version of Views should I start with? Views 1 or Views 2? And what would be the best how-to documentation or tutorial to help me out with this? I'm a little lost, so any and all help is greatly appreciated... TIA, David

access content summary option not available

Hi All, I'm following the this (http://drupal.org/node/408018) tutorial to creating categorized content and at the end of item 6 it says "Finally, under the module_grants section tick “access content summary” for authenticated users. Press “Save permissions”." But under User management>>Permissions>>module_grants module I see only the followings access 'All' tab access 'I can edit' tab access 'I can view' tab access 'I created' tab access 'I last modified' tab access 'Published' tab access 'Unpublished' tab I don't see the 'access content summary' option. Am I missing something here or has this option been renamed to something else? I'm on drupal 6.13 Thanks, Dhanushka.

Best way to deploy Drupal

support(a)drupal.org: I've been searching for a comfortable CMS for years. I deployed a personal Drupal site ~20 months ago and have been fumbling my way along, learning as I go (http://holgerdanske.com/). I recently worked my way through "Using Drupal", and have come to realize Drupal's GUI CMS RAD nature. Slick, but... My current development-test-deployment process is as follows: 1. Log in to the production server and take a backup using Backup and Migrate. 2. Lock out the users. 3. Hack. 4. Do some manual testing. If testing fails, either: a. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until I succeed, then let the users back in. b. Restore. I'm now running Drupal sites for other people, and need a better process. I'm looking for Drupal features/ tools that allow me to: 1. Export settings, content, uploaded files, etc. (e.g. everything "dynamic") from the production server and import the same into a development machine. 2. Export additions, changes, fixes, etc., as deltas from the development machine and import them into a test/ staging machine. 3. Import validated delta(s) into the production server, quickly and easily, with the ability to revert. (Referential integrity will need to be solved, or precluded.) I would prefer that exports and imports be in the form of a directory tree of files in suitable standard formats, so that the full range of command-line tools can be brought to bear -- version control, backup, archive, mv, cp, diff/patch, hand editing, scripting, etc.. I would prefer that the export/ import functionality be available via both a Drupal administration control panel and via command-line utilities. STFW, this is not a new issue: http://lists.drupal.org/pipermail/support/2009-July/012439.html I'm wondering what the Drupal project has in mind for solving it, when, and for who (e.g. 4.x? 5.x? 6.x? 7.x?)? Apache issues with Drupal .htaccess

I know this is more of an Apache issue, but I'm hoping someone in the Drupal world has seen this too since it has to do with the default .htaccess in Drupal. On my MacBook Pro, I installed Apache/MySQL/PHP using MacPorts. I'm running PHP 5.2.9 and Apache 2.2.11. It works great, except for a couple things. For some reason, the .htaccess file cannot have the following lines in it: # PHP 5, Apache 1 and 2. <IfModule mod_php5.c> php_value magic_quotes_gpc 0 php_value register_globals 0 php_value session.auto_start 0 php_value mbstring.http_input pass php_value mbstring.http_output pass php_value mbstring.encoding_translation 0 </IfModule> When they are, I get the following error message in my Apache error log: /Users/steve/Sites/myartleague/.htaccess: php_value not allowed here However, if I comment them out and put them in httpd.conf, I don't get the error. However, this is a pain, since I have to modify the .htaccess any time it's updated. What's odd is that I have AllowOverride All set in httpd.conf. You can see it at http://pastebin.com/m4e09f963. In addition to that, extensions only work with separate .ini files. For instance, xdebug will only work if I have xdebug.ini in /opt/local/var/db/php5. If I have the xdebug settings in php.ini, they are not recognized. They are only recognized in the xdebug.ini. phpinfo shows a "Scan this dir for additional .ini files " setting with a value of /opt/local/var/db/php5, which apparently seems to mean that that directory has to be used. If anyone can shed some light on why I might be having these issues, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Steve

Zen Classic Question

Drupal 6.13. I wanted to do a new theme based on Zen Classic. I followed the instruction and everything is working under my new theme name except Theme Specific Setting. The setting page doesn't show Breadclumb setting. I have gone through theme-setting.php, info file, and template files to see if I left out renaming somewhere but I just can't find it. views and calculated fields

I have a view with two fields (A and B), both of them numeric. I want to make a filter to show nodes when A + B = 0 How can I make this? I suppose I should add A and B as hidden fields and then there should be a calculated field anywhere allowing to add(), concatenate(), .... But I have been unable to find this module. GAF clone with Drupal

I'm going to create a clone of websites like GAF (getafreelancer.com) where people can submit projects to develop and developers can bid on them in order to work. Before starting, I'd like to be sure to choose the best way to do it. How would you build it? I'd use CCK to create two new content types, Project and Bid. I've seen it exists also the Node Comment module, and I could use it to represent the Bids. But I don't know if it's a good solution to do that. The biggest problem is the reference. I think I need a node relationship module in order to "link" one Project to many Bids and to display the "linked" Bids when viewing the Project. A kind of father-sons relation. I'd like to use URLs like /node/add/bid/123 to add a new Bid, where 123 is the Project nid. I've seen that they exist modules which deals with URLs, too. (there's a module for everything! ^^) Which is the best way to implement all this with Drupal? Thank you for any hint. Regards, Giovanni ps. Getting Garbled Chinese

Hi, I am new to drupal. After successfully installing the package on my server, I prepared some post in Chinese for publication. But the Chinese characters were rendered garbled when I hit save. I've already set my web server character-set configuration to utf-8. Could anyone tell me what I shall do? Thanks. - Tony

Drupal Association field values for Amazon API 6.x 1.0 Beta7

Figure 4-5 in the book shows "Amazon locale", "Amazon referral settings", "Your associate ID", and "Amazon API key" fields, but Home > Administer > Site configuration > Amazon API shows the first three and then "Amazon AWS Access Key ID" and "Amazon AWS Secret Access Key". I have tried various combinations of "Amazon referral settings" and the values printed in the book ("drupal-20" and "0CD9RCSD22JDH5DFD99") without any luck. I am not inclined to agree to a 17 page contract with Amazon to complete the exercise. Does anybody know the new Drupal Association field values to get this working? TIA, David
