Great to hear - thanks for letting us know the problem is solved.
Hopefully modules will start to take advantage of the uninstall call in this patch: http://drupal.org/node/76340 (assuming some version of that makes it into HEAD). It would fix this problem, for one. Kobus - you could contribute a patch to image.module to kill that variable on uninstall. I'm sure walkah would appreciate it.
