Jim,
Forgive me if this is obsolete or insulting, but have you looked closely enough at Google Analytics? In my case I used to have to track all outbound links manually with a bit of javascript. But since recently every file and external referral is tracked automatically.
Look under "Content" "Event Tracking" ... and then under "Downloads" click on "view all" ...
You can then click on each file type (in my case it's like .jpg, png, .pdf, etc.) and you can then see how many times each file has been downloaded.
In your case, since you have some wrappers or some such, they might appear under "Clicks" . . . and if you click on "clicks" it should show you what you need.
Feel free to set me up or send me a login to your Analytics account if you need help.
HTH
Jeff

Anyone know of a way to get a count of files that have been downloaded other then the public file conter module as this one uses a php link to count the file and makes the links to long. It looks like Download Tools and the file counter module are not ready for d7 yet.
