Hi Katy.
I am a a total newbie with Drupal, too. Two things helped me grasp the concepts. One is having an experienced Drupal developer friend who has been patient with my million questions; the other was taking the course(s) on lynda.com so I could get some hands on experience with their exercise files. Good luck!

Find out what theme is being used. Then the files that it "should be in the folder" if the person followed convention. look for /sites/all/themes/theme-name/ in here "normally" will be the css etc. Now if they used a default theme and changed it then your looking at theme folders off root. But they can put the files anywhere technically.
Hope that helps.

I'm a newbee with Drupal. I need to make some changes to web sites written in Drupal. I do have access to FTP server and to the database. I can't figure out the file structure, I don't know how to start at all. What do I need to install? How do I find the files? Where to start?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Best, Katy
