Have a look at http://drupal.org/project/domain_taxonomy for the sub-domain/s

As to a list of modules useful for a forum look at Michelle's (advanced forum) work as she has covered the subject a great deal.

I tried to configure the subdomain module, but no success. I set up everything as per the readme in it.

The ServerAlias, my DNS wildcard, mod_rewrite

But it still complains.

Any ideas ?
