I handle it within Apache by doing a permanent redirect within the VirtualHost definition:
<VirtualHost 192.168.1.14> Redirect permanent / http://www.domain.org ServerName domain.org </VirtualHost>

I notice this isn't the case at drupal.org, however. When I log out at www.drupal.org, I also get logged out from drupal.org. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?
