Definitely look into using http://drupal.org/project/fontyourface http://drupal.org/project/fontyourface which can assist in the issue. However, many fonts aren't licensed to support webpage embedding. Gil Sans is likely not (being that the foundry is Monotype).
You might consider typefaces here http://typekit.com/libraries/full?style=Sans+Serif&tags=humanist http://typekit.com/libraries/full?style=Sans+Serif&tags=humanist as licensable replacements for Gil Sans via the fontyourface module.
