Our administration user experience survey indicated that 83% of  
administrators installed new modules to evaluate them and learn

There are currently 370 contributed modules in the 4.6 branch.  We  
have categorized them into a spreadsheet and developed a new  
categorization capability for Drupal.org. You can test it here:  
http://scratch.drupal.org/project/Modules
