I've a Drupal 4.7 site in beta right now where every node is defined by CCK.  
The page and story modules are both disabled.  If we were "forced" to keep 
the page node type around, that would clutter up the UI with stuff that we 
don't want.  

+1 for using page and story to show how you can have different node types do 
different things, like disabling comments on page by default.  -1 for taking 
away the user's ability to reconfigure the site however he wants.
