Moshe, a maintainer is needed anyway to create (or manage the contributors to create) a migration path for a new/different module.
On top of that, core filesystem is very limited, inflexible, and (sorry) badly coded. filesystem module looks fabulous, codewise, featurewise and architecturewise (http://www.darrelopry.com/docs/filesystem), but as the maintained says: not ready yet. http://drupal.org/project/filesystem no release either. So lets PLEASE not make the flexinode mistake again: let us not drop a popular system in favour of something that might, possibly, one day, become just as cool. I am not volunteering to take over (no time) but I think saying "no don't volunteer because there are better solutions at the horizon" is a bad thing too. Let us please encourage some form of continuity and backwards compatibility for the users that don't develop (for) Drupal! Bèr -- [ End-user Drupal services and hosting | Sympal.nl ]
