[drupal-devel] [wanted] aggregator improvements
Anyone interested in working on the aggregator module? I'm particularly interested in people trying to improve the aggregator's output. The structure of the pages is not 100%, we lack some filter functionality, and would benefit from additional options to limit the length of aggregated content. These would be welcome improvements for Drupal 4.7. -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/

Yes, willing to work on that. What kind of filter functionality are you looking for? (Ie. you mean input/output filtering options, or item filtering?) Grtz, Breyten :-)

- I'd like to impose a restriction on the maximum length of a news item. Often the "Drupal talk" page (now disabled) gets messed up because some items are really long. - I'd like to see both the filter mechanism and the menu-structure reorganized. Take a look at the news_page module for ideas; IMO it has better filtering functionality and better navigation (regardless the weird feeds as nodes concept). - I'd like to be able to edit or delete individual news items. When using "aggregate feeds" like those from Feedster or Pubsub you end up with duplicate and unwanted news items. Also, RSS spam has been a problem before on drupal.org. Being able to delete or edit these without having to use the MySQL command line would be really useful. - I'd like to export filtered feeds using RSS. Like that, someone can combine feeds, filter them, and in turn make them available to others. -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/

+1 only if that is turn off-able. My needs require me to show the entire contents of feed item, regardless of length. -- Morbus Iff ( I'd prefer my past to be multiple choice. ) Technical: http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/au/779 Culture: http://www.disobey.com/ and http://www.gamegrene.com/ icq: 2927491 / aim: akaMorbus / yahoo: morbus_iff / jabber.org: morbus

Although he's not awake yet, I can assure you that Boris would absolutely be interested in a variety of improvements. We (Bryght) have a couple patches kicking around for aggregator, and could likely be convinced to produce a couple more. Other things to include would be - feeds for aggregator categories, and of course Atom support (unless you already committed that while I wasn't watching). -- James Walker :: http://walkah.net/

What, patches that aren't in the patch queue?

That has been committed a few days ago. -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/

i believe they're in the queue... I'll double check with Richard (as he's the one who filed 'em). -- James Walker :: http://walkah.net/

They're in the queue. Also, I'm less interested in the current aggregator (which uses non-standard categories and lots of other stuff) than I am in aggregator2 (feeds AND. I've just pinged the author again, and hopefully we'll get a commit, otherwise I'll just commit the version I have as a zip.
- enhance aggregator.module so that it lets each user manage his own feeds, and read his own articles. the aggregator should keep track of what has been read and not read for each user.
Karoly, I'm definitely interested in "user feeds", and I think that would make sense to make part of the current aggregator. The way I see it, the current aggregator becomes optimized for reading and multi-user, and aggregator2 is basically for content syndication directly between sites -- I actually pinged Jon VanDyke about this, since it seems to tie into publish/subscribe. -- Boris Mann http://www.bmannconsulting.com
