mailing error in general

Hi all, I experienced funny things on my newly installed site: Drupal can't send emails, like I can't send newsletters with Simplenews, and I assume that the contact forms also don't work. This server uses PHP 4.4.1 which I wouldn't touch due to various reasons. My question is: what PHP configuration Drupal needs exactly to send mails? It is quite important for me, so any help will be more that appreciated. Best regards, Tibor

I ended up developing a CAS module for drupal to perform this auth. I haven't ported it to 4.7 yet, but will be doing this. It's not on the drupal site. What plugin are you using? I wasn't aware of other code to support CAS authentication in drupal..... Would you be interested in my CAS module when I port it to 4.7? The technique I used for this was to develop my own login block to replace the login block that's available in the "user module". As Anisa said, you use the PHP block visibility. More Than 125 MB of System Memory

My brand-new Drupal install on my brand-new host http://icdsoft.com/ basically works. Until I try to add a user. The url /?q=admin/user/create generates a 500 Server Error. The support at the host said: ================ Our System Administrators checked your Drupal installation and it appears that the application requires more than 125 MB of system memory. Many of our customers are using Drupal with no problems. We suggest that you re-install the application using a clean copy from the vendor's site. If the problem still persists, please contact us again. ================ Here are some system specs: INSTALLED SOFTWARE Service Version Path PHP4 (more info) 4.4.3-dev - PHP5 (more info) 5.1.4 - PERL (more info) 5.6.1 /usr/bin/perl Ruby 1.8.4 /usr/local/bin/ruby Python 2.3.3 /usr/local/bin/python MySQL 4.0.27 - I am using PHP5 via this line in my .htaccess: AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php Why am I doing this? Because my development server is also PHP 5. I also wanted to try all of the features of CiviMail, which requires PHP 5. In truth, this host doesn't have the mail software that CiviMail needs, so I don't really need to stick with PHP 5. Anyhow, any ideas as to how to proceed? Simplenews REcreates Newsletter eMail for EACH subscriber?!?

It appears to do this. Our newsletter takes hours to send and is sent out with a ridiculously long node "Title" (which is used as the email's subject line). During the cron-run part of the delivery of our last issue, I changed the node's title to a shorter one that would not overflow out of the SimpleNews subscription/previous-issues block and the subject line of the emails being sent out changed accordingly *as the issue was being delivered*. Alone, this behaviour poses a possibility of easy screw-ups for unwitting and/or non-admin users. But if it also means the email is being re-generated for each subscriber, it would seem like an unnecessary and potentially dangerous drain on server resources. Why couldn't the email be generated once and re-sent to all subscribers after the first one? Am I misunderstanding this or is this what is actually happening? If it is, can anyone suggest a way I could quickly modify the simple.module or related code to have the mail generated only once? Thanks in advance.
