mysql/apache crashing

I've made a bit of progress since this last e-mail. Put back in the debian default my.cnf. mysql processes are now about 6-8% of memory, apache is around 3.5% per thread. However, the server is still swapping out, crashing etc. seemingly at random every couple of days. We're _only_ running drupal on it, postfix is installed but only doing sendmail sends from contact.module, not receiving anything, and it's otherwise a fairly vanilla xen/vds/debian sarge installation. I also installed the blockcache.module to see if that would help - this has definitely reduced queries per page by about 20 (still roughly 200-250 queries per page but that's 10% so not bad). There really doesn't seem to be any obvious trigger to the crashing out though - it'll be fine at high traffic levels (for us), so I'm wondering if something is going into a loop etc. As always, any help much appreciated. Pages with restricted access and menu entries.

I have defined a page type for pages which should be hidden from anonymous users by writing my own module (an edited copy of page.module) and have set permissions so that only users in specific roles can read those pages. My problem is that if I add that page to a menu that menu entry is shown to anonymous users and I would like it to be hidden from them (they get permission denied on clicking on the menu entry) and only shown to logged in users with view permission. Is there any way to achieve this? -- Martin Tomes.

Error when enabling modules (Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted ...)

This is a new site, I was able to enable few modules but when tried to add 'audio' modules ('audio' module from http://drupal.org/project/modules) I got the following error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 14592 bytes) in /opt/drupal-4.7.3/database/updates.inc on line 1984 any ideas? I looked at the code but it's not clear what the error means, looks more like some php related problem. system: - debian unstable - php5 - mysql 5 - drupal 4.7.3 TIA! erik

Migrate content from 4.5.8 to 4.7.3?

I have an old drupal page that uses drupal 4.5.8, I'd much rather fresh-install 4.7.3 then go through probably (I guess) error prone upgrades. is there any way to migrate content from old 4.5.8 drupal installation to new 4.7.3 installation? I only want to migrate stories etc., not setup/themes etc. TIA, erik

Hello, I'm running drupal 4.7.3, and just setup a multi-site scenario. If I go to just the main site, I get no errors. But, when I go to any of the sites I have setup under the sites directory, I get this error message: warning: Missing argument 2 for drupal_get_path() in /var/www/html/drupal/includes/common.inc on line 1192. I get that error when I click on Administer - Modules. Line 1192 of common.inc is: Function drupal_get_path($type, $name) { return dirname(drupal_get_filename($type, $name)); } Any ideas how to fix this? - jody

How to provide users with personal homepages?

Hello there, I am creating a website for youth and my users would really like to be able to configure personal webpages with images, links, text, etc. So far, they only have their personal profile page and that's not attractive at all. What modules do people usually recommend for that? Suggestions are very welcome! Thanks in advance, Leo

The bio module is the closest thing that I'm aware of to a personal home page, but you should also of course, look at blogs. Use bio with the views module to provide an index of users with the personal home page. I've also developed a little module based off of blog_theme (I haven't decided if is worthy of project publishing) that lets you, for specific content type's, force the use of the author's selected theme, do give additional flexibility. If there's interest, I'll publish this as well. It would also be pretty easy to make a custom block that shows a random picture or pictures from a user's photo gallery and only displays on their user/## page, another block that does the same with their most recent blog entry, etc. I don't know of any module for user pages that users customize themselves, though. I might eventually find the time to put the above blocks into a simple module (if your project has a budget, someone else at Agaric will probably be able to make time!). It would still require customizing the theme to make the place for the blocks.
