A newbie path question

I am fooling around with Drupla on my OSX local machine and realized all the images aren't viewed from other machines on the Intranet because image path are: IMG src="http://localhost/drupal/files/images/ This must be a base URL issue so I played with settings.php but to no avail (or I couldn't find how to make the path relative). Automating logins from email notification

We have several password-protected Drupal installations for use by various groups connected to our organization. We have been using the Notification module to let folks know when something new has been posted. In actual practice, these sites are used so seldom that what happens is that people receive the notification, can't remember how to log in, and end up ignoring the notice (and the content) rather than ask for help logging in (again). We think that one solution might be to send out the notifications such that they include the login/password info encrypted, so that clicking on the link takes someone into the website, already logged in. The encrypted info would probably want to expire, say, within a week. This doesn't seem possible with the Notification module. Is there something else that provides a similar service that we might use (some comments on the Drupal forms suggested that og also sends notifications, but it isn't clear if we can ease people's way to getting into the site). Ideas?

Multilingual site and menu

Hi, For the last two days, I've been trying to set up a site using drupal so that its contents is available in multiple languages. Translating nodes using the i18n module is, luckily, not that hard at all. But translating the menu is a different matter altogether. The i18n module comes with a file i18nmenu.module which translates the menu title properly. That works, but the only problem with that approach is that it does not translate whatever the menu item links to. As a result, I get horrible results such as the menu item linking to the Dutch node when the user is browsing the English version of the site... not very good. I've been trying to hack around this in various ways, but none of the solutions I've come up with is satisfactory. First, I tried creating one of those multilingual blocks that the i18n module provides. This works for the menu in the left or right column, but not for the 'primary links' system. So scratch that. Then, I tried creating URL aliases which would resolve to the right item, so that drupal would pick out the right node by itself. My first attempt involved creating something like 'taxonomy/term/1'; but that gave me teasers only, which wasn't appropriate. Besites, it had to link to a node rather than a list. So scratch that. I tried creating an alias to something like 'node/or/2,10', hoping that this would be a valid syntax. It turned out not to be. I tried creating a custom_url_rewrite function to return a different rewriting scheme based on 'global $locale'. That doesn't seem to work, since it breaks the URL rewriting stuff of the i18n module (which comes with its own custom_url_rewrite function). Every time I access a URL alias. I tried creating aliases through the browser interface of the form 'nl/about' and 'en/about', then linking to 'about' in the menu system. That works, but then the site doesn't grasp that 'en/about' is the same thing as 'about'. I'm out of ideas now. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Apart from that, I'm also looking for a module which would allow me to control access to forums in a more fine-grained manner; I would like to set up a public forum ('guestbook'), a private forum, and an even more private forum that's only available to people in a specific role, not just any authenticated user. That doesn't seem possible using the current system. I'm using Drupal 4.7.6, if that matters. -- Shaw's Principle: Build a system that even a fool can use, and only a fool will want to use it.

PJIRC module not working

Hi I'm trying to setup the PJIRC chat module in my Drupal 4.7 install, but no matter how I install it, the applet is not loading and I'm getting this error in the log: modules/pjirc/pjirc/irc/ParameterProvider.class not found. I have checked and the module files downloaded from drupal.org do not include the above file. Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance for any assistance -- Albert

Multisite problems

Hey After looking through tons of guides and howtoes I'm still nowhere near a working solutions. I have added the following structure to my sites folder: /sites/all/modules /sites/all/themes /sites/default/ /sites/default/files/ /sites/default/settings.php /sites/site1.com/files/ /sites/site1.com/modules/ /sites/site1.com/themes/ /sites/site1.com/tmp/ /sites/site1.com/settings.php I have created at vhost file for apache2 with the following settings: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName site1.com DocumentRoot "/var/www/localhost/htdocs/drupal/" ServerAlias site1.com <Directory "/var/www/localhost/htdocs/drupal/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all DirectoryIndex index.php <FilesMatch "^\.ht"> Order allow,deny Deny from all </FilesMatch> </Directory> </VirtualHost> My problem is that drupal appears to ignore my settings file under site1.com. So I get the default site even if i access the site using 'www.site1.com'. Am i missing something obvious here? All help would greatly be appreciated. Regards Joe

That groups the fields into a fieldset. That's like a section that can be collapsed and expanded by the user. It's just a nice way to group similar fields. Newbie question on concept

This maybe a wrong question to this list, but hoping it is OK :-) I am supposed to do a demo site for a company. They have chosen Drupal for the platform after considering Joomla, which I did a demo site for them. I realized CMS is aimed at Blog users, and I am having tough time getting quick tutorials for commercial site where no Blog or News Feeds are needed. The reason for CMS needs are multiple Asian language support, archiving news releases and other documents, and ability to edit the contents by managers, not to mention needs for CSS2-clean. Is there any tutorial for commercial site design which skips all the needs for Blog? I haven't been able to find one so far. Drupal terminologies are more confusing than Joomla to me. Joomla offers manual which you can print, bind, and read even where you don't have the net access. I was hoping to find something like that for Drupal but to no avail. How would i best go about setting up a podcast and feed in Drupal 5.x

Hi there, Well the subject line contains the question, but let me elaborate further: What modules would people out there recommend for setting up a podcast and feed that are relatively easy to use for a newbie to Drupal? Is podcasting functionality already built into Drupal 5 or is it something that could be enhansed with modules of some kind? /Krister

SQL warnings after registration

Hi! When trying to register on my site (Drupal 5.1), I get a succesful registration, but with these warning messages: 1. warning: pg_query() [function.pg-query]: Query failed: ERROR: argument of OR must be type boolean, not type integer in /site/includes/database.pgsql.inc on line 125. 2. user warning: query: SELECT u.mail, u.name FROM users u LEFT JOIN users_roles ur on u.uid = ur.uid WHERE 0 OR ur.rid = 3 in /site/includes/database.pgsql.inc on line 144. I'm using postgresql-8.1.8. Any help would be appreciated, Thank! Daniel
