Users without email addresses?

Hello, I have an unusual problem: We provide a service for schools. Students make Drupal accounts and use it to do a school project. Problem is, many students don't have email and indeed, the school doesn't *want* the students to have email. Worse, they want the teacher to create the student accounts. I don't like this, yes it's stupid, but there is no chance of me changing their mind about this. I'm hoping that someone here might help me find a good solution for this problem. As part of the service, we have a custom web application that I wrote. This application already has a record of all the students and teachers and schools. So, for example, I could consider using this application to insert new users into the Drupal database. The teacher clicks a button that says "make Drupal accounts for all my students" and a PHP script makes the accounts. Could that work? Personally, I am afraid of editing the Drupal database directly, but perhaps there is a safe API I can use? Or is it reasonably safe to insert records into the Drupal database by hand? I can see problems with this idea (e.g. what do I use as user names? Student names are not unique). But I can't think of anything better. Does anyone have a better idea? I don't really know any good way to solve this problem. The problem is not urgent. For the time being we can get a staff member with admin access to create student accounts using fake email addresses. But I hope to find a better long-term solution. Thanks for the help. Daniel.

Multiple sites using subfolders

Hi everyone, I'd like to set up multiple sites using subfolders. Basically the client wants their site in multiple languages, but doesn't want to attempt to synchronise the various sites and pages between the languages or do anything that the content translation/i18n modules offer. So I want a bunch of independent sites in a multi-site setup. This could easily be achieved using domains like www.example.com, de.example.com, fr.example.com etc. The question is, can I do the same thing putting the sites at: www.example.com, www.example.com/de, www.example.com/fr. This guy explains the same problem quite well http://drupal.org/node/30857, but then the rest of the thread seems to lose track of the task and not give a decent answer. (it might be easier to understand the question if you forget about i18n altogether and just consider the question of putting multiple sites in subfolders). Thanks, John

URL aliases not working

Hi, Suddenly, the URL aliases do not work. I have a bunch or "page not found" errors of clients trying to access them. The setup is Drupal 6.8, Pathauto 1.1, Token dev. (Dec 11th). I've tried deleting all aliases and re-creating them (bulk update), emptying the cache, but no luck. No url aliases appear. Adding Audio area to content type with CCK

I have the audio module uploaded to my site and would like to be able to upload audio files to a specific content type. Do I need an additional module? The audio option does not show in the pulldown menu for content types when adding a new field. thanks

Double site

Hi I ve read a bit about multi site installation, but still i am not so sure about how to go: I ll have basically 2 "twin sites" each referring to a different island in the same archipelago, the structure both on content management and on the theme graphic will be the same but all content will be different and i d like to have the 2 sites on 2 different databases. first site: www.mysite.com/islandx second site: www.mysite.com/islandy of course at www.mysite.com there will be an island chooser considering i ll have to change details on the future i d like to have the 2 sites using the same theme and the same module folder although i think i need 2 different installations (to get the 2 contents on 2 different databases) It s clear to me how to have a site using different themes but not really the other way round.. Any hint is welcome Simone -- .wmv , .wma , .pps along with all proprietary Windows formats won t be accepted and/or viewed....

Update Status Doesn't Work for Login-Toboggan after Upgrade

Gang, This is just annoying... Logintoboggan doesn't show up in the update status report. Otherwise it seems to be installed fine. It shows up on the module menu and its configuration screens work. This problem ocurred after I upgraded logintoboggan from 6--1-2 to 6--1-3. My method, for various reasons, is that for modules I use CVS but I delete the old version and add the new version instead of using the update command. I have the whole thing wrapped in SVN. Don't know if this is at all relevant. Any ideas? Shai

Theme Function For Adding jQuery

I want to create a function in my template.php that will set a different banner for certain pages by modifying the background property for the div with jQuery. The jQuery is pretty easy (I would just add it using drupal_add_js()), but what I can't figure out is how to call it from template.php. Can I just create my own function in template.php that calls drupal_add_js()? Or do I have to use a hook? I need to have the current URL available to the function. My first thought was to use a preprocess hook, but it seems that the preprocess is for adding variables, not this. If I wanted to write a module I could do something like hook_init, but I don't want to have to do a module for something small like this if I don't have to. Thanks Steve

Contact.module mail issue D6.8

Newbie here so apologies in advance if this is the wrong venue to ask this. I couldn't find a contact.module issues page. It may be a system mail issue anyway because I also had problems with mail-related modules Mime Mail and SMTP. When I send a test mail from the contact form on my test site, it arrives ok, i.e, with plain text message displayed in message body. When I send from production site with same contact form config, not ok. That is, the message arrives with nothing in the message body and with empty attachments. Test site is a subdomain of the production site on the same server, same codebase (Drupal 6.8). The only difference in the message headers seems to be in the content-type. Test site message content-type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed; delsp=yes Production site content-type: multipart/alternative; charset=utf-8; boundary="0a99274a7e9d0d3f848edc5aabb774d9" I had possibly related problems trying to work with Mime Mail and SMTP modules.... Mime Mail could not send html emails properly to Outlook 2007 exchange. The messages would arrive with a lot of code in the message body and the html in an attachment. Worked ok in gmail and yahoo. SMTP could not connect to the smtp server on bluehost.com. Bluehost confirmed my settings were correct. Copy/pasting same html from drupal sites to my phplist on bluehost.com and sending works perfectly. FAQ module: how to edit questions?

I have installed FAQ module, with pathauto, and "Clicking on question opens/hides answer under question". Now I can create FAQs, but I can't see how to edit them. Clicking on the question just displays the answer, and the node number is not revealed. How does one navigate to edit FAQS? My environment: Drupal 6.6 FAQ module 1.1.2.3.2.1 Thanks, Bo
