hex codes in node_import files

I got to answer my own question. Pretty simple after all, I found all the characters in the field data that mapped to 0x80, or decimal 128 and up. Then converted them to HTML special character codes by prefixing with '&#' and suffixing ';'. So 146 ->  Seems to have worked well enough for my purpose although I don't know for sure that this accounts for all possibilities. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I'm porting CCK content from a redesigned D4 site to D6 by extracting the data in a PHP script, generating CSV files then using node_import to create the new nodes. It's working out pretty well so far but I hit the following snag on one of the content types. There are hex encoded characters in the D4 content, somewhere in the importation process the text gets truncated at the first appearance of one of these eg. 0x99, 0x93, 0x94. Am thinking the easiest way to handle it would be to preprocess the data in my PHP script, converting to what it really should be anyway ie. HTML special characters such as the following: 0x99 -> ™ 0x93 -> “ 0x94 -> ” Anyone know of an existing utility to do this for me? Otherwise I can code up a conversion method to accomplish it. Marty

D5 slow when write on DB.

Hi all. I have a problem with a D5 site. All write operation on DB are slow. But really slow. I had thinked that the problem was my DB so I have moved it to a cluster db server (thanks to unbit.it), but without changes. How can I found which is the operation that slowing down all ? I have disabled all modules like ping, autoping, devel, workflow. Thanks. Configuring yui and yui_editor modules on a per role basis.

Hi, I'm trying to get yui_editor working correctly for a specific role. The role is is called content_admin. I only want this specific role to be able to use the yui editor. I don't want site users to see it otherwise. Everything seems to work well. When I try to edit existing content the editor appears and all is well. When I add new content the editor does not appear and I only see the plain text editing area. I have set the role to have permission to use the yui editor. I have set the correct content type for the new content and associated with the right role using the better_formats module. I have setup the yui_editor profile to included the content_admin role. I've setup any setting that I can find to make sure the editor will show up when creating a new piece of content. And yet, the editor doesn't show up. Any help? Thanks, Matt

[OT ?] A good ISP for a 200.000+ page views site.

Hi all. I have a D6 site that make 200.000+ page views/month. I need to move it to a new ISP. This site use imagecache for resinzing news image. I think that use 64MB php memory. Can someone give me some name of good ISP for this type of site ? str_replace in views argument

My second argument for a gmap style view is a city name, provided by url. It works fine for single word city names like 'Reseda' but not for multiple word names like 'Canoga Park'. The url supplies the name as 'Canoga_Park', with an underscore. I need to remove the underscore for the gmap lookup. I've set the default argument for Location:City to return str_replace('_', ' ', $arg[2]); No joy. I suspect this has something to do with the limitation that the argument return only a single value but I don't know enough about the underlying system to tell and I don't know how to debug a view.

how blocks work and "garbage collection"?

Hi, I've a long list of categories (external to drupal taxonomy) and for each category I'd like to provide a block that offer some category aggregate info. I'd like to keep the block list/configure interface (admin/build/block), so that users could decide if, where and when those aggregate info should be displayed. But I can't present the whole list of categories in the block interface. As an example I picked up views to see how to dynamically create blocks. But it doesn't seem that views do any garbage collection in the {blocks} table after a view is deleted. A better example was core menu module that actually does some clean up. Even themes leaves a lot of garbage in {blocks}. How this is supposed to work? Do you have a general approach to suggest to this problem? Does a module already exist to do some clean up? eg. a couple of switches that will ask: - would you like to clean all blocks assigned to a not installed module? - would you like to clean all blocks that are assigned to a not installed theme? Shouldn't a policy exist in the docs to ask modules/themes to do their own clean-up? I saw this problem seems to be solved in D7. -- Ivan Sergio Borgonovo http://www.webthatworks.it
