Drupal is not too big, even with a small number of modules, it's not huge. It is more complex and far more secure. But it has one drawback. It loads all the code and modules into server memory, even when some modules are needed intermittently or less. This has caused me php memory issues for years and unfortunately modules rely on modules which rely on modules to get one small thing done they are all loaded. If, and I stress, if, you can find a Drupal theme too suit the purpose, stay with Drupal, I would. Inspection shows that of hundreds of Drupal themes out there they all, with minor color or display variations, look virtually identical. Building or modifying a Drupal theme is, for me a horrendously complicated problem, and I've been doing it for a number of years. Roger

Another Drupal vs WordPress question

Hi to all, Actually, I'm not asking which CMS is better or something. I use Drupal for almost 6 years but, still, I would put myself to "higher beginner" level. 90% of my websites are small, simple, intro websites I built for friends and "clients". Mostly with News, Basic, Events/Calendar, Webform, Forum... content types. Pretty standard. So, my question is "When is Drupal to big for a website?" When would WP fit better? Or even when would home-made-code fit better? Where is "the line" you step over and have to use Drupal? If a small nonprofit asks you to build small website with some basic stuff, for free if possible, would you still build it on Drupal? Thanks for any input, afan

Drupal 7 cron does not appear to be running.

Hi, I am rather new to Drupal. I have configured cron to run via crontab on HostGator. Appears to be running, however the status report shows that is has been a while since cron has run. Drupal 7 on HostGator reseller account. (I know HG lacks the resources to run Drupal adequately... Hoping Boost will fix that.) Any help much appreciated. -- Keith Smith

cron access denied

Hi, using the latest version of drupal 7 I can not run cron and yes I have the key and tried from configure / cron clicking the button and also the link to cron with the key. I have read all sorts of things including changing permissions of cron.php to 775, 755, 644 and nothing works. I'm wondering if I have a module causing this problem. I am using the following modules. I have disabled the nodeaccess module and rebuilt the permissions and still access denied. Backup migrate Ctools Entity Entity reference Faq Filefieldpaths Filefieldsources Globalredirect Nodeaccess Pathauto Pathologic Privatemsg Rules Token Views Webform Any suggestions on how else I can troubleshoot this and get cron working?

Strange Caching Problem

I moved a multi-site configuration from one server to another. The sites are all working well accept that on of the sites keeps needing the cache to be cleared. Multiple times per day we have issues with CSS not showing correctly and the admin tool bar disappearing. When we clear the cache it all comes back. We only have this problem on one of the sites in the multi-site configuration . We have gone through lots of diagnostic steps to try and figure out what is going on and cannot tie the cache needing to be cleared to anything specific. For example it does not coincide with cron running. We have tried turning off caching option (/admin/config/development/performance). Mysql , it seems doesn't start automatically on my mac or macbook even when the box is checked. I have to go to system Preferences -> Mysql and start it manyully every time the mac is started. Also I haven't found a way to get Drupal on another disk or usb to find the mac installed mysql. Roger

Rendering path question

Hi everyone, this is most likely a very newbie question, but here goes. I just took over a website that uses drupal 7. Our front page has some code in it that is suppose to put a slide show on it. in page—front.tpl.php <div id="SASslider" class="clearfix" > <?php print render($page['county']); ?> </div> However, I am having a hard time figuring out exactly which view in the drupal api that the ‘county’ moniker refers to. Can someone help point me in the direction of the right view? Cheers Tommy
