Customizing Drupal Commerce

Hi, I am looking at customizing Drupal Commerce. I've been a LAMP dev for a while however I am very new to Drupal. I have a ton of questions. First let me say thank you for all your help and guidance. I am wondering the best way to proceed? Hack the existing commerce modules or create other modules that interact with the existing commerce modules? Thanks again for all your help!! Keith

clean url's

Hi, I've uploaded Drupal Commerce Kickstart and it is working as I would expect it to. The problem is clean URLs. This is on a new VPS and I have no other sites on this server that use mod rewrite. As a result I do not know if this is an Apache config issue or something to do with Drupal or Kickstart. I have KickStart setup on a local dev box and clean URL's was not an issue so I assume this might be an Apache config issue. I modified the Apache config changing AllowOverride to ALL. I've verified the .htaccess file that came with Kickstart is in the root directory and have verified the permissions are 644. When I go into the Admin panel to check for clean URL's it fails. Any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this issue? Thanks a bunch in advance!! Keith

Updating live from dev

Hi, I seem to recall hearing there was a way to push changes from a dev site to a live / production website. I know some use GIT and that seems good, however I'm wondering about content as well. Say someone writes an article on the test site and when ready pushes it to the live site. Or should I only be doing Drupal config / building on the dev site and do all my articles on the live site with a backup. What is the "Drupal way" protocol and what will make my life the easiest? Make sure you enable to Blog module to begin with. How to find content type of a node on it's edit page?

The website I work on has 34 content types and TONS of records. And I’m looking for a specific page (node) 1. WHY there is no “search/keyword” field/form on the content page I can search for a node?!? 2. I found the page by searching the website but on the edit page I can’t see anywhere (or am I doing something wrong?) the content type of the node? Any tips & tricks regarding this? Thanks

Creating a blog using Drupal 7

Hi, I'm rather new to Drupal and would like to create a blog and not have my article list be the home page. I would like to designate another page called "blog", or any name I select, to be the listing page. I am reading that the best way to do so is to create a "blog" content type. I am reading the blog module is not the best approach and this module will be removed in version 8. I'm thinking I need two things: 1) blog content type 2) blog listing page - do I need to create this or is this automatically created as part of the creation of the content type. If there is a better solution, please advise. Any guidance is much appreciated. Thanks!! Keith

Installing modules by the web interface.

Hello all. sense I have upgraded to the latest drupal I cannot get modules to install from the web interface. for example, I have clicked the modules link and clicked “install new modules.” When I do that I get the usual thing. ask for a URL or to browse for a module on your computer. I can do either one of these tasks and when I click install, it just takes me back to the same thing. When I do the steps above and click install again, it will take me to a blank screen. Does anyone know why this is causing this problem? Note: I have reinstalled drupal and ever sense, this has been happening. Thanks all.

Views Exposed Filters Not Setting URL Fragment

I am altering a view that someone else created and I noticed that the fragment (the part after the "?") with the exposed filters is missing from the URL even when values have been chosen. Does anyone have any idea where they went?

possible to update existing field type?

I have a custom field on my user profile pages where users can enter their Twitter user name. When the user's profile is rendered (either on the user profile page itself or via views) I would like to rewrite this field so that it links to the user's twitter profile following the patternhttp://twitter.com/[field_twitter_name]. I discovered the twitter username project on DO yesterday (https://drupal.org/project/twitter_username) and this would help me accomplish the objective, especially for new users. However, we currently have ~900 active users on our site. Is there a way to create a new field and update its tables with the existing user's twitter names? Or is there a way to change the field type from it's current setting of "Text field" to the new type made available by the twitter username project "Twitter username"? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ashley
