A few question

Hi, I have two cck content types question and answer. I have a view in which the question is shown with its node reference answers. I have a hidden node reference field which links the answer type to the previous node from which the user clicked. I'd like to make it so that when users go to the individual answer or the individual question it should redirect them to the relevant view. I am also wondering how can get the node/add URL into a popup/ modal so users don't leave the view they are on and when they have submitted their new content the view is refreshed to show their contribution. I am also using the shorten module. I was also hoping that the short URL only converts the relevant view fro each node. So a short URL for a question and answer are the same if they are have a node reference relationship. Any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks, Ayath

Difference in D6 between Views' "block caching" and core block cache

I have block caching enabled under "Performance" but it seems that to get blocks coming from Views cached, I need to individually set the cache under the Caching settings (None or "Time Based") Does the core block cache only affect blocks that come from outside Views? Neil

cck field file open in new window

Issues with access arguments

Hello, i'm trying to develop a module similar to private_download, but with multiple directories: http://drupal.org/project/private_download The module has been written based on this post: http://www.drupalcoder.com/blog/mixing-private-and-public-downloads-in-drup… I managed to create the hook_menu implementation, but i am running into issues with the access callback function. My drupal install seems to completely skip the access argument check and i can't figure out why, since the same access arguments variable present in the hook_menu implementation in the original module is working flawlessly. I'd really like some ideas on why the files are downloadable by everyone and the permission check does not have any effect. General Drupal question

I have a site that I’m working on the data structure for… I feel like I know how I’d do it, but I was told that it might not scale well, so I thought I’d run it through you guys. In my plan, I was going to make several content types and connect them through node references. Specifically, there would be Content Type A (CTA) pointing to CTB, pointing to CTC, that points to several of CTD’s, E’s, etc. So it could be a Store that has Departments, and each Department would have one or more Budgets, and each Budget could have several items figured into the budget, from an Employee (another content type with items of info) to Custodial (another content type with specific items), etc. Would this cause too much server load using inherent Drupal Content Types with CCK fields (D6)? Would it only work with direct db queries and mysql tables instead? How much is lost doing it using content types instead of custom coding? I guess I was under the impression that Content Types were very efficient, that if you create a Content Type, it is basically the same as creating a specific table in the database, but maybe not. module for taxonomies in an external database

Is there any module that allows me to have just some taxonomies stored in an external database not necessarily using the same tables as in standard drupal? If not, current taxonomy APIs are powerful enough to allow such a development? I am asking because taxonomies lower expressive power if compared to a relational database or to onthologies. I would like to build a module that allows me to define a taxonomy using metadata which describe how some knowledge stored in a db is projected on to a taxonomy. Thanks, Davide

Any dedicated server hosting to recommend ?

Hi everybody, I'm currently managing some Drupal sites on a Rackspace cloud and I'm pretty happy with their service. But as my sites are getting bigger and more complex, they use quite some RAM. I still haven't been able to cut down the number of modules but I have implemented different levels of caching to reduce the load. However, a 4GB instance on Rackspace cloud cost around 160USD/month, at this price, I think it may be time to investigate for a dedicated server. In Europe OVH offer powerfull dedicated server around 80USD/month (http://www.ovh.co.uk/products/dedicated_offers.xml ), but I'd like to find a similar offer in the USA. Which dedicated server provider do you use for what cost and what service ? What would be your recomendation ? And bonus question, is there an easy way to migrate my system configuration to a new host. Thanks a lot. Nicolas

how do I pimp my book-menu in Drupal 7?

Hi, I am using *book* menu's in* Drupal 7 *but want to make them look nice. I found the* 'nice menus' module*, but I was not able to make my book menus nicer with it. Most hints and tips I find on this subject seem to be for Drupal 6... Any hints on how to do this or where to look? Thanks, Tom

Drupal 7: Search Woes

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone on this list. Just by my lurking you guys have helped me solve problems I didn't even know I had. As a Drupal enthusiast fighting through the learning curve (and loving every second of it) I do occasionally hit a wall, and this is one of those times. After trying a half dozen modules and pouring through literally hundreds of drupal.org nodes, I am no closer than when I started. I have a content type with a slew of fields and some 30K nodes. I would like to make this searchable by field -- Last Name, First Name, DOB, DOD, etc. -- with a themed search form to match. You know, "search by last name", "search by first name", and so on. Faceted search, while a nice idea, isn't necessary. I've tried exposing Views filters without much luck (although if this is the way to go, I'm happy to revisit Views, hopefully armed with a handbook page or something) and tried the Search API ( I can't get it to index anything). Finder just throws errors rather than results, Search Lucene API isn't ported to D7 and SOLR isn't an option (shared hosting for a non-profit). This can't be an uncommon request and I'd be grateful for any pointers in the right direction. -- Al Sessions
