Hi list, What's the best current way of doing forums in Drupal? I'd prefer something a bit more featureful than the stock Drupal forum module. I've had a look at the third-party forum integration modules but I'd appreciate a bit of advice on which one works best. Cheers, Tim

Templating in Drupal 5.1 - the cleanest way to do it?

Hi, I'm fairly new to Drupal. I've downloaded and installed Drupal 5.1, and we've got it working with multiple sites and modules very quickly. A lot of things *just*work*, which is great. One aspect I've found quite confusing is the principles behind templating (I can manage the PHP nitty-gritty reasonably well). There seems to be a number of different ways of doing templates - PHPTemplate, XTemplate, a .theme file - which I appreciate may be for historical reasons. I've also seen conflicting advice on the Drupal site for how to override default templates and functions. Our Drupal themes would end up quite large owing to specific client requirements, so I really want to start as I mean to go on! So what's the best practice for templating? A few examples of stuff I want to do might help illustrate the problems I've been having: 1. If I wanted to hook into the code that creates e.g. $sidebar_left, how would I do that? It seems to be created by theme('blocks' , 'left') in the phptemplate engine. Should I just discard $sidebar_left, or is there some hierarchy of function names that theme() calls? Can I put any such functions into some file in my theme directory and they'll always get recognized? Should I call such functions e.g. theme_block_left, or phptemplate_block_left, or THEMENAME_block_left ? Or should I instead use .tpl.php files exclusively e.g. block-left.tpl.php? 2. For different node types, I just can't seem to get the system described at <http://drupal.org/node/104316> working properly. It works fine for the node-content sub-templates e.g. node-video.tpl.php will get called over node.tpl.php, but e.g. page-video-edit.tpl.php just doesn't get called. Is there something I'm missing? Would this hack here <http://drupal.org/node/117491> be worth looking into? 3. A bit of a random one, but say I wanted to change the content of an admin page. We'd be using Drupal for very heterogeneous sites (so e.g. events nodes, news nodes, courses, content, press releases etc. etc.) so the "Create content" page would start to look very cluttered. Any way of overriding that at the theme level? Also, we could have many user roles, so we would want to change the look of the permissions pages too. Content Type: Minutes Of Meetings

Hello all, I am running a community site for our club. Our secretary is to upload the minutes of each meeting to the site. The member later will vote the minutes approved meaning correct and not modification is required. I have created a content type called minutes where I added a file link for a pdf and a doc file formate of the minutes to be downloaded. I am stuck on the approval part. I want the members to read the minutes and comment their modifications. Once everybody is happy they can vote approval. When the votes reach a certain number, it will close and the minutes will be considered officially approved. Any suggestion on how to achieve this? Thank you

Creating custom nodes with a script

I installed and configured the script at - http://drupal.org/node/67887#comment-209250 - with the posting title - My completed and working script (with taxonomy. (It's about half way down the page.) After setting up my CSV and running the script, all of the fields in the newly created nodes (custom node type) are correct and everything in the node table is correct - except the uid in the node table is staying 0 (default) instead of the number I'm uploading via the CSV. I can't figure out why the script is not changing the uid in the node table. Any ideas? Thank you. Mitch

Organic Group Events showing everywhere

Hello, I have the following problem: I want a block with all the events in 1 particular group. When I use the block "Group Calendar", nothing is showed. When I use the block "List of upcoming events", all the events, even from other groups, are shown How can I make a block that shows only the events of one particular group ? how to list all entries within a custom content-type

Hi! This my first post the this list, so Hi everyone :) I've added some content-types (eg. "article", "editors_blog" etc...) to my Drupal5, and now I would like to list all entries within a content-type. I was thinking of something like this: www.mydomain.com/editors_blog/all But couldn't find anything similar :\ Would someone help me with this? Thanks! Daniel

Changing 'Username' to 'UserID'

I got it working, but I only have a couple minutes so I'll do a quick explain and more detail tomorrow if you need it. Make sure the tracker view is enabled. Create a file node-usernode.tpl.php and copy the normal node.tpl.php into it. Then add this bit: <?php $usernodeuser = usernode_get_user($node); $view = views_get_view('tracker'); print views_build_view('embed', $view, array($usernodeuser->uid), false, false); ?> If that doesn't make sense, I'll write up more specifically tomorrow. I am using CCK and UserNode and would like to insert a View showing all blog posts and forum posts by that user. I got Insert View module which allows me to insert views inside CCK fields but it's just passing the default values and I don't know how to show "current user's content" I have also used PathAuto to create UserNodes in the format personal/1, personal/2, personal/3, etc Isn't there a way I can use this uid to alter the View in some way, so that it becomes "Forum and blog posts by [uid]". I suspect Arguments is the way to go, but have had no luck with it so far. Thanks for any help you can offer.

slow site: db problems

Hello, We're running Drupal 4.7.6 with the following contrib modules: captcha, contemplate, event, forward, inline, links, pathauto, tagadelic, taxonomy_theme, urlfilter, cck, flexinode, i18n, panels, print, taxonomy_access, textimage, views. We're having a serious database performance issue. Page loads sometimes take several minutes, so does adding or editing content. The top and iostat commands show a very high iowait. iostat -p also tells us that the load is on mysql. So, a couple of questions: - Could there be an obvious problem with our combination of contrib modules? I'll try disabling them to see what each of them might or might not do, but there may be obvious problems ... - In the node table, the vid row is at the bottom. On a fresh Drupal install, I noticed that the vid row is located second (below nid). How bad is this? What's the best way to put the vid row (and its content) back in place again? - I'm thinking this might also relate to another problem we're having: a few weeks ago, our search indexing stopped working. This happened after upgrading from 4.7.5 to 4.7.6. I tried rebuilding the index, but the problem stays. Is it possible that both issues are connected? If more specific info is needed to give advice or help, please ask. Thanks, -- bruno
