clean URLs is greyed out

I'm in the middle of a brand new Drupal 4.7.6 install. When I try to enable clean URLs, I find that the radio box is greyed out. The thing is: mod_rewrite seems to be working, and the clean URL test works, and I enabled the path module and gave myself permissions to do everything. Any suggestions? Thanks much, Miles

multisite +OG +CNAME

Hi Folks, Question from a newbie getting ready to set up a new Drupal installation. I was wondering if it's possible, and if so, how, vector a domain name to an organic group. E.g., www.foo.org CNAME foo.oursite.org www.oursite.org is a server running multiple drupal sites foo.oursite.org is a virtual site running at the same IP address as www.oursite.org when someone tries to go to www.foo.org, we'd like them to end up in an organic group, within foo.oursite.org --- I assume that I set up a site folder for foo.oursite.org within the www.oursite.org tree. Since the user will be entering URLs of the form www.foo.org/... - do I need to have an alias defined so that the foo.oursite.org folder also has the name www.foo.org? What do I need to do to get users vectored to an organic group defined within foo.oursite.org? Thanks very much, Miles

impact of converting db varchars to integers

Hi, . To improve Drupal performance, our client has suggested to change the field types from varchars to integers in some tables. A few tables with varchar fields are as follows: node : type permissions : perm node_access : realm blocks_roles : module (It means we are numbering node types from node/comment/page/story to 1/2/3/4..... like that) I guess i need to change the drupal core code as well - if i change the core tables field types. I would like to know whether this is feasible or not. And what would be the impact, if i change the data types of the core tables. Thanks & Regards, T.Melantias

url alias not working?

hi i am trying to make this url (which is linked in a lot of places) www.freedom-center.org/radio go to this url on our drupal install www.freedom-center.org/section/radio i tried to do this under set url aliases here: Existing system path: http://freedom-center.org/section/radio Specify the existing path you wish to alias. For example: node/28, forum/1, taxonomy/term/1+2. http://freedom-center.org/radio Specify an alternative path by which this data can be accessed. For example, type "about" when writing an about page. Use a relative path and don't add a trailing slash or the URL alias won't work. but it doesn't seem to work? thanks for help -- will

Database : why the type fields are varchars

Hi, We are going to build a web site using Drupal. I am new to Drupal CMS. While going through the drupal tables, i found that the 'type' field in 'node_type' table is varchar. I am eager to know - why the type fields are varchars instead of integers. I would like to know this because varchars are slow in table joins and searching. Calendar view showing updated date, not event start date

Hello, I've got a drupal 5.1 site, and I've created a view to display the calendar. Which it does: http://beta.menashalibrary.org/childrens/events But, it's listing those events by their creation/updated date/time rather than the start and end date/time for the event itself. Any ideas how I can fix this? - jody

I haven't gone that way yet for two reasons: 1) I really, really couldn't believe that this case (one drupal install for several sites, each one with its own database) had been ignored or forgotten by the developers. I haven't even seen anywhere any official announcement that such a way to use Drupal would have become deprecated with Drupal 5. Did I miss such an announcement? 2) I am not going to play with several *live* websites, risking to mess them up, to make an untested procedure work. Not until there is the slightest possibility that a tested way to make this upgrade comes up (I can't obtain more databases right now on that server). Is it at least possible to know for *sure*, before trying it, if running that procedure through ONE of the websites currently managed by Drupal 4.7.6 will upgrade all the others? Hello, I have checked in the forums, and all I have found is other two users with the very same problem and no answer at all in three weeks: http://drupal.org/node/126461 http://drupal.org/node/132425 http://drupal.org/node/126438 Is it really true that there is no way to upgrade one multi-site drupal install from 4.7.6 to 5.0 or 5.1 working only on the command line???? Account Types Module preventing us from assigning roles?

We are setting up a new Drupal 5 site. We implemented the Account Types module. We created a bunch of account types, but we can't seem to assign roles to users, we keep getting an error message "failed to delete invalid roles upon account type update" and "account type update was unsuccessful" and it will not allow any roles to be added to a user or allow the account type to be anything but "basic" even though we have set up both roles and account types. Any ideas?

hi all, I installed drupal on my website and added my content to it ,the default content is still coming on the homepage and i am unable to locate the page where it is coming from . The default content looks like " Welcome to your new Drupal website! Please follow these steps to set up and start using your website: 1. *Configure your website* Once logged in, visit the administration section <http://www.latentroutes.com/homepage/admin>, where you can customize and configure <http://www.latentroutes.com/homepage/admin/settings>all aspects of your website.
