Jorge, I agree with Nancy to only enable what modules you need. But for most standard "data driven", "user maintained" sites (which for me is 99%) I use those listed above. *

Jorge, I will answer your question the way I always do: To "have D7 working properly," install what *you* need and no more. While there are lists of what others think are necessary, the answer for you is really individual. Of all the modules - and suggested lists - the only contributed module that I have used universally is Pathauto (well, before D7, that meant Tokens too). Yes, I even have a simple site that doesn't even use Views or CCK.
As for Fantastico, I strongly recommend against using it. You said you know how to install manually, so do. You will not be able to upgrade Drupal with Fantastico - I know from painful experience.

Hello Ryan
Thanks a lot for the comment. That's something I am looking to learn also. To have D7 working properly, what modules are recommended to use. NOt for menus only but also for other activities.
Thanks for your help and time.

Hi Jorge,
There is some sort of an "issue" with the active menu trail in D7. I use the very popular menu block module for sidebar menus and such. I am presently using the Superfish module for dropdowns.

I am learning and studying Drupal. Actually on version 7 since my hosting company (with CPanel) only provide version 7 as option for instaltion with Fantastico. I have been playing with version 7, it works, have had some issues that are very simple and do not work (like having a menu link under a parent one, it just lost the child menu and does not appear in any place. Anyway I am not sure if it is a Drupal BUg or I am doing something wrong. Since I can install rapidly I am starting from zero again to se if maybe I damaged something in some way.
For starters. Do you think it is better to downgrade to 6 (I can install it manually). Or continue with 7?
I have read that 7 is better and easier to learn for newbies.
What would be your advice?
Thanks in advance
