I want to allow businesses to create listings on my site. We have a set of custom questions and also categories. I then want to display the listings by category. We of course will need to approve of them before they are published.
I see the Simple classified ads module (http://drupal.org/project/ed_classified). Can this do what I need? Any tips on how to custom the fields there?
Thanks, Fred

I recently had a look at this on a test site. It has the category controls you want but I don't know that it has the submission controls you want. You probably want to explore CCK and Views. These two are stated to give you the most flexibility with custom forming. I have yet to wrap my hands and head around them.

I Agree with Earnie, cck + views would be the way to go with this, using taxonomy to categorize. This way you are building in a way that has the brightest upgrade future, as things look now -- CCK and views are going to become only more integrated with core as we move forward.

Is there a good tutorial for that? I have yet to find something that clearly gives a step-by-step of how to use Views. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places :(

Have you seen the documentation pages: http://drupal.org/node/109604
and especially the tutorials from there?: http://drupal.org/node/59157
One nice thing about views is that you can experiment -- create a view visible only to admins, and try out the settings. A lot of modules play nice with views now, so you have a lot of power creating custom pages. I think it's one of the great things about the 5.2 paradigm.
Views in 4.7 is nice, too, but since CCK works on a different footing there, it is perhaps less intuitive.

Thank you SO much to everyone who wrote about this. I am looking into how to use CCK now.
