I'm looking for something that lets you subscribe to an individual thread.

The closest I've found is a service called "quicktopic" (www.quicktopic.com) - I'm looking for an open source alternative to host on a local site.

I've seen things like this in various bulletin board / forum systems, and they're really useful for things like:

• getting discussion going around a specific topic
• soliciting responses to an article
• getting people involved in a specific project
