I am going to try that tonight and will provide feedback. I will simply remove legacy.inc from my installation folder, and if that causes too much effort, I will turn on short tags, and if that doesn't solve the problem, I believe that the issue might be something else. Anyhoo, I will provide feedback for those interested.
