Hello,
I have seen the guide on
about a local server setup. I think this is an excellent idea and I want to give it a try.
I want to build a site and have it ready before I start paying a monthly fee to a host provider.
However, my OS is fedora 14
If anybody happened to have a step-by-step guide to the local server installation and setup for it, I would be very thankful.
Cheers,
Pau
Do you have Apache, PHP and MySQL already loaded? *

I found this guide
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_install_Drupal
It's perfect. The only thing that was missing is the link to point to after installation... I tried
localhost/drupal
and that did it... or was it drupal6? :) I don't know, I forgot it
Thanks!

PS: One last question -- Once I have configured totally the page to what I would like to have, is there a way to export _everything_ to a new drupal machine, even if on a different operating system??

You can copy a Drupal install (like you have) by dumping the db and backing up the webroot. Then just restore the db on the new server and copy the webroot over. You'll need to have Apache, PHP and MySQL ready to go beforehand of course. *

Thanks for the keywords!
I don't really know what you mean, because I have never heard the words "copy the webroot" and "dump the database", but I am sure this ir more than enough to find a detailed information somewhere else. Thanks.
Now I wish I knew how to use drupal on an AFS system as a normal user (see other recent email)
Cheers
