PS: One last question -- Once I have configured totally the page to what I would like to have, is there a way to export _everything_ to a new drupal machine, even if on a different operating system??

I don't really know what you mean, because I have never heard the words "copy the webroot" and "dump the database", but I am sure this ir more than enough to find a detailed information somewhere else. Thanks.

Now I wish I knew how to use drupal on an AFS system as a normal user (see other recent email)

You can copy a Drupal install (like you have) by dumping the db and backing up the webroot.  Then just restore the db on the new server and copy the webroot over.  You'll need to have Apache, PHP and MySQL ready to go beforehand of course.
