If you are referring to bulk operations on unaliased paths, there is a maximum it will do every time.
Keep on truckin'!!

No, just execute many times.
See the Drupal Handbook, in general, and in particular, this page: http://drupal.org/node/236304 (Bulk updating Pathauto node aliases from cron or command line).

If you had a site with lots of content to be aliased, the way that Pathauto was originally built the bulk update would never run to completion and every time it started over from the beginning. As of 5.x-2.x it now works in configurable sized chunks and generates aliases for nodes which have no alias.
The reasons for this change are described in http://drupal.org/node/142762 and http://drupal.org/node/67665
Inside of the "General Settings" section is a box labeled "Maximum number of objects to alias in a bulk update: " Increase that number to 1000 or 2000 or 10,000. If it starts giving you a "white screen of death" from php running too long, reduce the number.
