Hi, I have seen a few posters on here with visual impairments. I would like to use some sort of spam prevention on my Drupal 7 site and would like to know what has worked best for you? I'm currently sifting through the spam prevention modules now trying to decide on the one I will be using for the contact form.
Thank you for your time and suggestions.

I'll mention one that probably no one else will: Email Verify. It checks to see if they enter a validand reachableemail address. It has no visible component, so it may not even be on your radar, but I consider it indispensable in the war against spam.

Hello Nancy,
I'll mention one that probably no one else will: Email Verify.
Close enough to my own suggestion ! :-) But I didn't knowit was possible to verify e-mail validity beyond purely syntactic verification.
It checks to see if they enter a validand reachableemail address. It has no visible component, so it may not even be on your radar, but I consider it indispensable in the war against spam.
It is for sure helpful !
Could you provide pointers ?
Thanks much ! Sherab.
Yes, it actually contacts the server to make sure the address is valid and usable. http://drupal.org/project/email_verify
To use it with comments (patch): http://drupal.org/node/458758
A tip to use with any form: http://drupal.org/node/898726 Nancy Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. -- Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.

Also, might be something you're already using, but I recommend using drush rather than the built-in admin screen.
Screen-readers should easily be able to read the CLI output from drush, making blind drupal management much easier.

Hello Nancy,
Yes, it actually contacts the server to make sure the address is valid and usable.
Okay but if the link between the address and the submitter can't be established, then a spammer could provide any legitimate address, like yours for instance !
Thanks for the links however ! Sherab.
Combating spam is never going to be a single module solution. Email Verify is only one of them. And no matter how many you use, you will not be 100% effective. Spammers are very persistent.

Yes, yes. My point was just to say that it is perhaps not worth the effort to install the module, since it is so easy to circumvent it.
Sherab.
Suit yourself. I find it pretty effective because most spammers just jam letters together. It also helps in real users not misspelling their email address.

I like your points, thanks! Anyway it's good to knowthis solution exists and you were right: noody except you mentionned it !
So, thanks again ! Sherab.
Good morning Jim and the list,
Hi, I have seen a few posters on here with visual impairments.
I'm one of them. Blind and administrating two drupal sites.
I would like to use some sort of spam prevention on my Drupal 7 site and would like to know what has worked best for you?
I didn't have to set-up any spam protection on the drupal sites I amadministrating, so far. But as a user, what I find the mostconvenient is when sites send you a code or a link in an e-mailyou then have to re-send to the site to prove your request is legitimate.
I realise this is not an absolute protection, but perhaps this would be enough to discourage spammers: wouldthey really want to automate such a thing: fill a form, wait for an e-mail, extract the information from that mail and then re-submit to the site...
The other point is that I don't know whether there are Drupal modules to do that.
I'm currently sifting through the spam prevention modules now trying to decide on the one I will be using for the contact form.
Well sometimes captchas may be okay if there is an audio equivalent and if the sound is distinct enough to be heard. I already experienced with audio captchas youcould absolutely not hear !
A satisfactory solution for me was the one used on project Euler's website. It was audible, didn't use any javascript, so I found it pretty cool and it is the only good experience I can think of regarding captchas.
hth, Sherab.

I'm administering a site and we registrations from spambots, although a veryfication by e-mail is mandatory. I don't know why they register, either.

You could allow things for registered users only and use the registration system, but that usually not what you want if you use captcha.

Could you provide a link to that website?
Have a nice day Rolf
Hello Rolf,
I'm administering a site and we registrations from spambots, although a veryfication by e-mail is mandatory.
But is it a marginal phenomena,or do you get a lot of them ?

We use captcha on the registration form and I increase the complexity every time it happens, but it still happens around once a week. Not a lot, but it's a small site.

Thank you, but I don't hear anything from the captcha used there.

Perhaps having no falsy registration is a too high expectation...

I think you have to submit a solution to see / hear a captcha. Sherab.
