I would like to build an educational web site and would like to ask you for your suggestions
Is there a drupal 7 package already out there? I did not see one on the drupal.org site
requirements
1. ui should be very easy to use and accessible to low vision / blind users that use screen reading or magnification software.
2. each student must have their own private access to course material that is assigned by the teacher as they move through the training. This is only shared between the student and teacher on a one on one basis.
3. teacher should have a way to hand content such as files that live on the server to the student to work on while preserving the original content.
4. Student will have access to update their work either online or upload an attached file that is saved in their own personal folder /user/username/filename it should get replaced so no duplicate file names such as name1.doc name.2.doc. maybe want email notification so know file is changed. Student can check that they are done with the assignment and an notification gets sent off to the teacher. Note once checked only the teacher can change it back.
5. The ability for student and teacher to have a private question and answer area. email notification will be sent alerting of new information optional once read by student/teacher q/a should be remove was thinking the scheduler or better yet rules should be able to do this.
6. Student will have the ability to change the state of their work such as completed, need help, in progress and an email notification will be emailed to the teacher with the information of the workflow change. The only one way change for the student is once the mark completed they cannot change it back to work on further, only the teacher should be able to do this.

I did not see one on that site at least one offered for free. This is a very low/no cost project I am working on for a friend who does private teaching and it is more a labor of love then profit.

Jim, You can look at Moodle as one person said but at $WORK our schools use gradeconnect.com along with moodle
