Image Nightmare: my image directory has thousands of image files. I just realized they have been multiplying themselves.
Some files. but not all, goes like this. <filename>_1.jpg . . <filename>_197.jpg Yet the live image is still <filename>.jpg. This file was uploaded long time ago, and the related nodes has not been modified at all. The time stamp of between the increments are 4+ hours, but is not matching to the cron runtime.
What is causing this? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Hi Hiro,
afais, still no cure yet... I don't use image-5.x-1.4 for this reason. Try to downgrade.
Best, Tibor

Oh, thank you so much. I am on 5.1 with Image 5.x-1.0. What version should I down grade to? Do I understand I have to manually delete dup files? This is going to be a tough job since there are legit files with confusing names :_(
P.S. How did you find this post? I was searching with "duplicated image" and didn't get any useful hit.

I also get mad sometimes about the image module :)
Hm, it is funny, I use 1.0 as well and don't experience the same. Try to upgrade to drupal-5.2 and see what happens...

Actually, that's what started :-( I was trying to follow the upgrade steps. Then backup got such a mess mainly because of the image issue. See, I can't see image files those which are actually live but Transmit FTP client can't see them even though I enabled invisible files. FTP CLI access even doesn't list all the files. Maybe I am hitting the limit. If I download entire directory, the local site still shows missing images. Very weird.
The documented upgrade steps seems to be quite inconvenient. I was going to ask about it with new thread next, but I'd better delete duplicated files first.
