Hi,
I've been using Drupal for quite a long time, since D5 was on. I have used WordPress also, but in general I have observed that, WordPress made sites become popular very easily, but inspite of having a lot of content in Drupal, the site doesn't get much hits.
I don't think its because of theme or some UI related issue.
Let's discuss this !
You are wrong. Wordpress is quite simple blog system and not a CMS. For eg, Tamil.net I cannot imagine a simple blog system.

The discussion here is not of a CMS or blog. BTW, Wordpress plugins extend it to be a good CMS as far as I know. I have no ill-wills against Drupal, infact Drupal is infinitely better than others in many aspects.
But this issue bothers me like anything. Any ideas ?
May I know what led you to think that wordpress sites are more popular than drupal?
It is not that wordpress sites are more popular by the virtue of them being driven by wordpress. You can achieve the same success with a drupal driven site.Wordpress has trackbacks, blog and ping right out of the box. There may be plugins for those features in Drupal.
A Drupal driven site is not the same as a Wordpress driven blog. A Drupal driven site may be anything - a shopping cart, a 10 page content websites, anything. Wordpress websites are.. well blogs. You can make a blog out of Drupal and add the features that Wordpress has and achieve the same results. One good example is Performancing (www.performancing.com)
Drupal does have ping "right out of the box". There is a core module that notifies pingomatic. Apparently there is no configuration involved but cron must be running.
