Hey, I've poked around on drupal.org and have installed the LDAP module to integrate drupal with AD, but I'm a relative noob when it comes to LDAP and am having some issues getting going and the documentation seems to be lacking (or I'm looking in the wrong place).
First off, what in your opinion is the best LDAP module in terms of ease of configuration etc.? I installed this one: http://drupal.org/project/ldap.
We have a few permission groups in AD: IT, HR, Users (the latter being everyone else). IT would be mapped to Administrator, HR to Moderator, and Users to authenticated user.
All of our users on AD sit in OU=User Accounts.
We haven't got anything interesting configured for AD as far as I know, so I'm using "Derive Drupal role from DN" on the LDAP Authorization Configuration page, but I'm not sure what to put there. Do I put OU, or CN, or User Accounts, or OU=User Accounts? A lot of this is looking like greek to me. Derive roles by attribute or entry - those options I don't quite get.
Help!
Thanks,
Jeff
Hello,
I am working on a personals site for a client. The site will have profiles for each person on the site. So, I guess the way to present the results of a search or browse feature would be with the Views module, right? Views would display results, such as People, based on the criteria that one filters upon. Maybe we want to show only men seeking women over 40 who don't smoke.
I know there are other dating sites that have used Drupal but has anyone on this list done this? Does anyone know of any other modules that would help with this kind of task of returning a list of users based on profile data?
Next, how does one find all the People, users who are located within 25, 50 or 100 miles of the searcher's location? I know it can be done based on lat and long coordinates, but would you do that at the time of the search function when it is run? I cannot imagine with a large database you'd store the distance between each and every two persons.
Thanks,
Bruce

Hi, You can use solr and apachesolr module for drupal. This module can search user profiles.
Jeff,
We installed LDAP and LDAP Help. LDAP Help (http://drupal.org/project/ldaphelp) was the key for us to get this running.
LDAP Help Module
This module is meant to assist Drupal admins in configuring, debugging, sharing, and submitting support and bug request related to LDAP integration modules.
