What I can't figure is that the identical view and display produces feed results for other content types but not this one. And it produces results for this content type with a page display. So there is something special apparently about both the feed and this content type, at least when used in concert.

In the content type, go to Display Fields (if using CCK). Maybe there's something in the RSS area that isn't set right. There are also Feed settings at /admin/content/node-settings which can cause some display errors. For instance, if you have a picture in the content, it can cause some character length issues.
