I have been logging in as admin to work on our drupal site for months and Sunday afternoon logged in as a user. I find that there is no way to log out of that user to get back to admin. Any suggestions please? If I can get back to admin privileges I can put up an admin log out menu block.

Delete your browser session cookie. As soon as that session is unlinked to you, you can login again. FF has a nice developers add-on to help manage session cookies for the future. Or just go to /logout.
