You can use keyboard shortcuts to accomplish this. Type them directly into the text box in Drupal. I've done this many times.
For Mac: option key + r = ®

Is it possible to use special characters in the menu link title and page title?
"Great Energy® Home" is displayed exactly like this instead of with ® replaced by the registered trademark symbol.
